It will work fine, they'll just both work at 2400.

In general, any mismatched RAM will default to the speed of the slowest one. There is a possibility that it introduces instability, but it isn't common these days.

So these should work?

Well he also needs to check if that RAM is on the QVL (Qualified Vendor List) for that motherboard does he not?
So I checked the MOBO page and the Wootware page, nothing about QVL, although I did see something about QVL on one of the other RAM sets I saw at Wootware.

Ok, I found it. I see there are Kingston sets but not those I bought. Will it be a big problem or just a technicality?

Go to the website for the OEM that makes your motherboard and check there for memory compatibility for your specific model.

Chances are they won't have tested the kit you're buying so do not be alarmed if it's not listed as compatible.

Nope, they don't have time to test every kit of memory that comes out and I've only seen those pages be current for a couple months after a motherboard is launched.

On the off chance there is an issue, Wootware will take it back.

Phew, ok. Panicked for a sec there.
No problem.

As a general rule, the further away from JEDEC spec a memory kit is, the more you have to worry about compatibility. Like a 3200 kit is more likely to boot XMP than a 4666 kit.

Even if it's not compatible, that only means XMP won't work and it would still work at JEDEC speeds meaning 2133 or 2400 (I can't remember what revision JEDEC is on). Those speeds are fine for your use case.

Yeah hopefully it will be OK for him. I am just going off my own experience where I bought 'Crucial Ballistix S XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1866MHz DDR3 Gaming RAM' in 2013 from Takealot for what I think was an Asus mobo at the time, the RAM wasn't on the QVL and unluckily it did not work. I either took too long to decide to return it or I just didn't bother, and in the end I was only able to use the RAM in my next PC by the end of 2015.

That 6900XT looks like it will be a relatively good deal.
It's just the 6800 and 6800XT which didn't get much of a cut.

This is surprising but good news - their stuff was already under the pricepoints targeted by Nvidia's new stuff. Much like the 3090 \ 3090 Ti are the only 30-series cards dropping in price quick-quick, I was expecting the normal slow creep down we've been seeing for the last few months till AMD's announcement happened.

Something I didn't notice last night...the 6600 is already $230 in the States (according to HUB) while the 3060 is $370.

AMD 7k CPUs wiping the floor with Intel at the moment, as expected. Finally topping single core performance as well. Until Intel releases their next chip, anyway.

Temps running high, AMD says it's normal.
