The PC Build Thread

Am shopping around for a new pc, my old setup i5 2400, 16GB ram, and GTX 1650(Was RTX580 before gave up). Lately am getting more into big data and increased my programming time. Mostly do 80% on the cloud but started a mini project and running out of ram, 2 docker images, and ram usage is 32GB! ( being using SSD as ram which is really bad and the drive writes knock 20TB writes in 1 week). So an upgrade is due.

Game Usage: 75% Ark Survival, 10% Cod MW3 Infected mode, and 15% other games(mostly Strategy games).
Main Usage: Running AI assistant systems(mostly memory intensive rather than computation), Programming(C++, DirectX, C#, python, node js), Blender, Gimp, and running 4-5 docker images.

Using it for personal use. On Weekdays I usually knock off work at 6 pm and then ark an hour then the rest is Netflix or youtube. On weekends I usually work on my personal project + do fun stuff(IoT, Building my Game), and waiting 3 hours for a simple task to complete has me thinking that I really need to upgrade the entire system for the next 3 years at least.

The budget is R40000 with a monitor, I can go R45000 but that is a stretch, the below system I have in mind, just shopping around to get it within R45000 mark, and if any Black Friday deals.

Asus VG27WQ1B TUF Gaming Monitor(R7500)
Cooler master 120mm FAN CPU Cooler (R800)
G.Skill 4 x 32GB Ram (R8200)
RTX 3060 TI Dual (R9000)
Gigabyte GA-Z690 Aorus elite (5000)
Intel 13700k (9800)
PSU Super Flower 850W (2250)
Mushin SSD 2TB Primary (R3100)
Seagate 2TB (R1100)
Phantex PH P500A Case (R2600)

The last system I build was 10 years ago, I just did SSD upgrade and GPU Upgrade.

Is the system solid or I am missing something?

I can do some trades off 13700k and could go for 13700KF and Seagate HDD is not important at the moment and can be taken out. Ram can go 64GB for now and use my SSD on my old PC. This will fit nicely within my budget range of R40k. I was even thinking of going i3-12100 with an R2000 MB board and then upgrading after prices settle. Will the price settle within the next 6 months(More than 10%?)? December got 3 weeks off so the utility of the system in December huge factor.

I'd go for something like this.

You'll want better cooling on the CPU and if you're buying a new platform for a while now, you may as well go the DDR5 route in my opinion.

EDIT: Damn, forgot the monitor. Let me change it quick. Basically the same as yours, just changed to the 13700KF and added an AIO and a few tweaks for budget.

Yes, I really like that but DDR5 ram 128GB is R14k alone, and another motherboard. Took me 2 weeks to cross out to get to this motherboard.

Alienware AW2720HFA 27" or the ASUS VG27WQ1B TUF?

Can I throw these in the ring too?

DELL S2721HGF - 68.47cm (27") (1920x1080 at 144Hz)

272M8/56 Philips Gaming Monitor

Really depends if you want 1080p or 1440p.

Can't recommend 1440p highly enough, it's worth the extra spend in my opinion.

and in terms of the brand of the above. Is the Asus above good enough, its VA panel?
What will you recommend with R6000 - 7500 budget?

People will say what they want about Evetech... but I'd go for the Samsung G5 for R5.5k from them. Bargain!

Had not great experience with them. RTX 580 under warranty was refunded in credit (Purchase was R3k) one week later they had it for sale. I don't mind a refund in cash but credit and being forced to use it within a period was something that made me hate them. But that price is seriously something. Will consider this.

Am going ahead with Wootware on the box, I don't spot any issue with the build. Monitor doing little research on the G5 and might order from evetech or wootware. No impact on shipping costs if decide to go wootware since it R186 extra regardless.

I'd rather spend R1000 extra at Wootware than deal with Evetech.

I had the Asus TUF 1400p monitor, not have the LG32GN600. They've both been great. Haven't tried the two you linked so I can't comment, but at this price point they're all quite similar.

I ended up buying the Alienware from Wootware. The monitor will come 5th December and the PC 9 th December. Seems like there really busy with orders. Will order another monitor in March(4k monitor)

Howzit. New to the forum. I'm a 1st time pc builder. Trying to keep the build as cheap as possible. Mostly will be playing apex legends and COD and some aaa title. 1440 gaming. My issue is the right motherboard.
Cpu Amd ryzen 5600
Psu gamdias 650w
Gpu asus rog strix rx6600xt oc
16gb ram klev
Kingston m.2 sata
Gamdias 240mm aio
Mother board options
Asus tuf a520m plus or msi x570 prime. Difference is the x570 double the price of the a520.
Thanks in advance

Welcome. Don’t skimp on the mobo, but don’t overdo it, either. Best option is going to be B550. Has all the bells and whistles and lanes you’ll ever need.

Also, can’t say I’ve ever heard of Gamdias as a brand. Are they reputable enough for you trust them with crucial power delivery to your precious components?

If you’re going Ryzen, RAM specs are VERY important. Is that 1 x 16GB, or 2 x 8GB? And what speed?

Finally, what sort of frames are you expecting with that setup and GPU at 1440p?

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, 1440p above100fps I hope. 2x8gb klev ram. Evetech.
Gamdias psu and aio from evetech as well. I think takealot had it as well. Point noted, go for a better brand. Which b550 motherboard would you recommend? Also bear in mind I'm hoping not to spend to much. Was looking max 2.4k

Not sure about local pricing but can’t go wrong with Gigabyte, ASUS or MSI. What speed is the RAM? Ryzen doesn’t like anything slower than 3200Mhz.

You meant 24k?

That's do-able at Wootware without having to take a chance on Evetech.

Wootware and maybe takealot....what other site can one watch for cheap components, especially with black friday at hand?

Looking to get the below.
Maybe someone can suggest me a better motherboard, sub R2k?
