Yea not really into ray tracing though I have nit seen it in person, power consumption is quite a big difference yes

But main gaming resolution will be 1440p to 4K (even if I turn settings down for 60fps) so which ever card is best for that I will take

Currently RX 6800 is 12k and 4070 is 13,5k currently

Just poking and getting a feel for what you all think of these mobo's

These motherboards are supported and kitted with-
Intel i7 12700K
RTX 3080 Non Ti
DDR5 5200Mhz CL38
Corsair H115i

Motherboards that I have -

&

While both seem to be pretty good, and in the same bucket, i'm not sure which would be supported the best going forward. Keeping in mind, that the 13th Gen i9 might be an upgrade in the future.

I thought I’d share
While my Corsair H115i stated, 15xx and 1200 LGA sockets only

The stand off’s from the 15xx series worked. Paste spread was even and decent pressure on the cpu itself

My newly installed 12700K was running on idle at 25č, under boot up and web browsing it peaked to 36c.

Hi Guys

Just got to putting the PC together and came into a really problematic error

Motherboard lights up with its RGB but that is as far as it goes, no fans spinning etc

It has diagnosis LEDs and nothing shows up, can't be power supply as the LEDs are lit up

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F ATX
RAM: 1x8GB DDR4 3600 Corsair Vengeance RGB
Boot Drive: Samsung 980 500GB M.2 NVME
GPU: Nvidia GT210 (spare while GPU I want is in stock)

The Power button is wired correctly as you can here a click as the button is pressed and a noise indicating start up and then does nothing

Tried BIOS Flashback in case of BIOS incompatibility with the CPU but Flashback fails

Did seat the CPU again but no luck, thinking of RMA'ing the Motherboard and CPU and just going Intel 13th gen

Anyone can offer some advise here ?

Thanks

If flashback failed then it's likely you'll need to pop an older CPU into their, get it booting and flashed and then popping yours back in.

Also, the LEDs coming on is not an indication that the PSU is fine. It could be delivering low power without issue whereas an increased draw is causing issues. I don't think that's the case, just pointing it out.

According to Reddit and other forms most people couldn’t figure the error and just RMA’d it

Not sure which cpu to go with now , was going with the Ryzen with the 6950 XT

Any ideas

There's likely nothing wrong with your CPU, I'm guessing you just need a BIOS update using a Ryzen 3xxx CPU.

As for GPUs, what's the budget?

I would venture that your bios almost certainly needs to be updated to support the 5700X.

Since you say the flashback failed, I would start there. try it with a different USB stick, flashback can sometimes be finicky with some sticks not working with it.
I know you probably did it correctly but it never hurts to triple check.
Make sure the USB is formatted as fat32 and the PC should be OFF when you start the flashback process.

If I had an issue with reseating the cpu , the light would have definitely came on I’m sure

I’m assuming I can update it with the current cpu in if correct ?

It’s definitely a bios issue as the light on the motherboard acknowledges you want to bios flashback but then fails by staying solid green

Don’t have access to another usb at the moment though

I did format the usb from 32gb and gave it a 8GB partition with FAT32

I only have another 32gb usb it’s a usb 3.0 and the current one is usb 3.2

Yes it was off hopefully I didn’t mess the firmware up when I was testing the power button

Do I really need a Ryzen 3 series cpu to do the bios flashback?

The motherboard does mention bios flashback without memory and cpu

12-13k max for my GPU , would hope I can do some 4K gaming

You don't, but it will allow you to boot into the BIOS and do the BIOS update that way, which may make it easier to see what issue it is running into and give you a bit more control.

Either a 4070 or 6800XT would be ideal. I'd go with the 680)XT due to it's additional VRAM.

That’s the issue the pc doesn’t output anything doesn’t even turn on so I have to rely on the bios flashback feature which I’m also not having any luck

The bios flashback light normally blinks but in my case stays a solid green

Yea had my eye on the 6800xt (not sure if I should take the 6950xt )

Well it won't output anything if there isn't a working CPU. And if the BIOS doesn't know how to deal with a 5xxx CPU, then it will fail to boot.

Try remove the CPU, RAM and GPU completely and try flashback again.

Good point

Never thought to remove cpu and ram

That’s going to be a pain to remove the cpu cooler

I vaguely remember that, when I installed my asus b550 tuf gaming, I had to initiate and run the new bios install with the power OFF. If power to the rig was on, it would fail the bios update.

Check if the Flash drive is MBR or GPT, it should be MBR for flashback to work.

Extract the download directly onto the USB drive and run the BIOSrenamer while it's on the usb then after move the renamed bios file to the USB drive root.(Don't know why this seems to work for some people over using the BIOSrenamer on the desktop but hey it's worth a try)
