I've seen good reviews of the Fractal North but haven't used one so can't help much. The Corsair 5000D and Phanteks G500A(?) are great.

Have you checked any reviews of that CPU cooler? From what I recall, the 5900X is a hot one, so maybe just double check if it'll do a decent job. Not saying it won't, I don't know. Another option would be the Deep Cool AK620 or Assassin 2.

Building a pc for rendering & cad. Don't need anything super high end, the specs here are adequate. CPU & GPU - am I missing something that's going to provide a big difference if I spend +- R1000 more? Any issues with that mobo? That PSU ok for the GPU>

Thanks but Nvidia for the GPU is non-negotiable. I need CUDA, OptiX etc. Rendering / animation software has a much bigger affinity for nvidia.

Is there that much more advantage to DDR5 ram? The ATX DDR5 mobo's are all considerably more expensive. Feels like the tradeoff is worth it and rather keep my CPU and GPU where they're at & stick with DDR4.

Going DDR5 will mean an AM5 CPU and DDR 5 RAM as well. Your costs jump significantly. The CPUs are a fair bit faster, but it's quite a jump in price. Better in terms of longevity, as you will still be eligible for CPU upgrades to newer generations down the line.

Really depends on how much you want to spend.

For future proofing, I remember back in 2008 I went with DDR2 instead of DDR3 cause I was like eh what's the chances. DDR2 practically disappeared off the face a year or so later.
We've been lucky this generation that DDR 4 is still around and mainly cause some pretty decent platforms still support it, but for how long?

Kind of up against my budget right now. Pushing everything to DDR5 is going to push me well into mid 40-50k territory. Obviously I don't want to regret it later on but I also don't want to start sacrificing on other parts.

The one upside of AM5 is every CPU has built in graphics, sadly not on APU level and way off the mark from what you plan to get.

I wonder if AMD will release Zen 4 processors on AM4 if the sales on AM5 is slow enough and they realise what a massive AM4 market there still is. Some B550/A520 board are now getting BIOS updates so they support older Picaso APUs, maybe as a nod to the used component market.

Thanks for all the help again. Pulled the trigger and went with the DDR4 instead. Didn't feel like sacrificing other components & didn't really want to push the budget either.

It's more that wootware are a 30 minute drive away - can collect when it's ready and do returns rather than courier if I want. There's still something nice about the place you buy something from being around the corner. Will take a proper look your site some time & keep it in mind.
