Need assistance from the networking gurus.

I am building new bedrooms for my house, and will move the fibre ONT to the newly built garage as well.

From there, I will connect to a 24 port switch to feed all my rooms, including existing structure.

The thing is, I don't have much knowledge on the product(s) available to install the perfect/ideal system.

I am considering installing fibre cable right through as well, so I'm covered for the future.

No budget, so go wild.

When you say "installing fibre cable throughout" - do you mean you will run conduit + cable to the rest of the house? Does it have to fibre or would sturdier Cat 6 / 7 Ethernet also work?

From the ONT you would have your router and then the 24port switch connects into that. I would then run N access points from the switch. IP cameras can also run from the switch if its POE capable.

Unifi devices generally get a good rep on here and elsewhere for such use cases - you can locally get decent prices from Scoop or Senetic

You could get something functional as well without putting down 20k - change the UDM Pro to a Mikrotik or a less hectic model, change to a Netgear Switch and find other APs... There was no budget so i went wild as you said :)

I would use some of that money and put everything in proper trunking with maintenance holes inside the walls. When you upgrade in the future you will have a lot less hassles and cost. Mikrotik for me.

And remember to pull pull wires in, to pull the cable. And when you pull a cable in, at another pull wire.

I am opting for fibre since some cables will most likely run over 100m. I can mix and match since i have a 300m roll of Cat6e laying around.

I will of course have many conduits placed in different walls and even in my roof slabs.

The CCTV will have its dedicated setup, this is strictly for broadband fibre.

What you attached, is that the best chosen for the perfect setup ?

Draw wire ?

My existing bedrooms have 25mm conduits underground, and I've seen installers manage to pull many cables in with fish tape. Don't think I'll have any problems here but thanks for pointing that out nevertheless.

Draw wire, any piece of rope, maybe nylon.

Depending on the number of cables it might be cheaper to have a 2nd cab.
My property is very long "L-shaped" with garages on either side.
Have a 4U cab in both garages linked with 2 cables (1 connected; the other for redundancy) and then run short cables from either garage to the camera's / network points / WAP's / etc.

I paid the Telkom tech who came by to setup my estate network. He did it over the weekend and everything is neat and tidy, no hassles so far. Main house, servants quarters, stablehands cottage, maids quarters and drivers flat.

Cat6 everywhere
Rack in the garage,Managed POE (Unifi Edgeswitch) to power APs centrally
APs: AC Lites / AC 6 for more futureproof
NVR/Switch for IP Cameras
Power everything with a backup power source

Ok lovely, it seems my knowledge is quite good as the general consensus is Unifi , which i have good understanding on the product range.

Thanks for everyone's input, if you have any other ideas , please advise.

I would also recommend UniFi without doubt- best bang for buck IMO.

If you really want to futureproof I'd suggest throwing in one of these: US-16-XG with a UDM Pro.

I think you're going to have to go with CAT6 or similar for your AP's as I don't know of any AP that can connect to fibre directly.

New bedrooms for house
and you say no budget, go wild

Are you putting in a tender to upgrade Nkandla?
It will be a piece of cake to run network cabling in Nkandla coz there's plenty of holes in the walls already.

Unifi or Mikrotik has a SLC Fibre-> Single CAT+POE converter, but i'd only really worry about that for 300-500m runs
