Hi people, I was just wondering just how effective the pill is as a contraceptive and the statistics regarding its success in preventing unwanted pregnancy.

Any information would help.

So far so good hey... 100% effective so far.

Human factor reduces it. Also be aware of combo drug use making it noneffective.

Very effective, but cruel imo. It gives women mood swings and behavioral changes I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Prolonged use also comes with issues we cannot begin to discuss. There will be a major fallout with regard to the use of the pill sometime in the future. There is the issue of the massive amounts of female hormones being dumped in our water supplies around the globe due to this chemical baby blocker. It is a mess as with anything we tamper with as humans that we don't completely understand.

Make no mistake, the pill is convenient. For us.

As with any sort of medication it does have side effects so you might have to try a few before you find the right one for you.

I'm on Femodene and haven't had any problems. Was on Yasmin before and had abdominal pain and generally felt lousy on it. Also a lot of women put on weight when on the pill. As far as i know Yasmin is one of the ones that you don't pick up weight on.

Is is only 95% effective? I thought it was more than that.

antowan i find that's more due to PMS and not the pill itself. Sure it will have an effect but i feel it's subliminal. My mood swings were far worse when i wasn't on the pill.

Anton dude you seriously have a poor outlook on the pill if you ask me lol.

I think the pill is 100% effective if taken as directed, most pregnancies that occur on well known pills are due to women not taking it as directed or missing a couple days and swollowing 3 to make up for the lost days.

exactly killadoob. the pregnancies that tend to occur are generallly when women take other medication or antibiotics and the pill then loses its effectiveness and then they like "OH MY GOD BUT I WAS ON THE PILL!"
:eek::eek::eek::eek:

lol!

Look i think if someone falls pregnant on the pill it was meant to be :)

/queue djk knocking some sense into that comment :p

A woman's period is regular using the pill.

My only thought about all that oestrogen is this not perhaps an added problem to men not being so manly or even gay?

huh? are you meaning men taking the pill?
Nope. I mean the baby boys born to woman on the pill growing up to be not so manly or even gay due to all the added oestrogen. Sorry if I was unclear about that. :)

ooooooh! No there isn't an abundance of oestrogen. It just balances out the hormones levels during your period.

My gf is on Jasmine which she takes to balance out hormones, but it serves as a contraceptive too :) It's pretty effective but she has to take it as directed and not miss any. She just sets reminders on her phone when it's time to take the next one.

Hi Serget,

I am not entirely sure what is all in the contraceptive pill.
According to Wiki the birth-control pill has oestrogen and progestogen whereas the placebo pills taken during a woman's period has only an iron supplement.

As far as I know under normal circumstances Woman have oestrogen in larger quantities than men whereas men have larger quantities of testosterone in their systems.
Woman taking contraceptive pills are likely to have even higher rates of oestrogen in their system and my question is does this higher level of oestrogen not perhaps affect the unborn babies, the boy babies perhaps.
I bet nothing can be scientifically proven as such, but it is queer that so many people within our society are gay as maybe this is not all genetic, but rather acquired through oral contraceptives.

As I am not a Doctor I cannot really debate this topic, but it does in my opinion add a flagging question to the pill and the long term use thereof.

yes the pill is made up of oestrogen and that is what is low during your period so by taking the pill you just boose your oestrogen level. it's not going to be so exceptionally high that it would effect a baby if you were to fall pregnant.

To the OP: If taken correctly, the Pill is more than 99% effective, i.e. only one in 100 women who use the pill correctly, will get pregnant.
