If you read the fine print on this "4K" box it says...

"Games running in Neo mode must operate at a native rendering resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p) or higher.".

I guess its an upgrade on the current PS4 that can't manage even Full HD rendering...

Highly doubt it. Current gen PS4 can't even manage 1080p...for stereoscopic 1080 VR you'd likely need ~5x the render output of current PS4. (Going from <1080 to double 1080 with increase FPS). The 4K either refers to upscaled rendering output or media playback...not sure which.

It's actually outputting a 4k image. Not rendering games at 4k mind you. Just up-scaling them. There should be 4k BluRay support as well.

Nah impossible, the hardware required would price it out of the market. Current PS4 can't even do decent 1080p, frame rates are less than that of an i3 + 750ti. If one looks at 4K gaming not even the latest 1080 GPU fills that gap. This is purely 4K media playback. When it comes to VR you need high framerates which in terms of moden GPUs equals gtx970/r9 390 & above preferably else you just gonna puke.
