The Porsche Panamera Thread

"The 2016 Paris Motor Show will see Porsche unveil the fourth model in the Panamera line: the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with controlled all-wheel drive and an electric range of 50 kilometres. The vehicle generates some 340 kW (462 hp) of system power and delivers fuel consumption figures of 2.5 l/100 km in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for plug-in hybrid models. That corresponds to CO2 emissions of 56 g/km. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is available to order now, with prices starting at EUR 107,553 including VAT in Germany.

Purely electric range of 50 kilometres

At Porsche, the term "hybrid" is synonymous with not only sustainable mobility, but performance too - a fact proven not least by the victory of the 919 Hybrid in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 2015 and 2016. This philosophy is now also defining the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

The new Porsche plug-in hybrid always starts in purely electric mode and drives without generating any local emissions within a range of 50 kilometres and a maximum speed of 140 km/h. And yet this Panamera too is a sportscar among the luxury saloons: The all-wheel Porsche achieves a top speed of 278 km/h and delivers a system torque of 700 Nm from stationary without hesitation. The four-door hybrid sports car breaks the 100 km/h barrier in just 4.6 seconds. The torque is transferred to all four wheels and the standard three-chamber air suspension ensures an optimum balance between comfort and dynamism at all times."

Porsche has revealed the fourth model in its second-generation Panamera range: the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

Featuring all-wheel drive and a claimed electric range of 50 km, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid boasts a total system output of 340 kW and 700 N.m.

The German automaker claims a New European Driving Cycle figure (for plug-in hybrid models) of 2,5 L/100 km.

Interestingly, the vehicle always starts in pure electric mode, in which it can reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h. But once the petrol mill kicks in, that figure rises to 278 km/h. The four-door hybrid sportscar reaches the 100 km/h barrier in 4,6 seconds.

The electric motor makes 100 kW and 400 N.m, which is made available as soon as the driver touches the accelerator pedal. The 2,9-litre V6 biturbo unit, meanwhile, makes 243 kW and 450 N.m, and is linked to an eight-speed PDK transmission.

The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, which is concealed under the luggage compartment floor, has been increased in capacity from 9,4 to 14,1 kWh, despite its weight remaining the same.

Porsche says this battery takes 5,8 hours to fully charge via a 230-V, 10-A connection. If the driver chooses to use the optional 7,2 kW on-board charger and a 230-V, 32-A connection instead of the standard 3,6-kW charger on the Panamera, the battery fully charges in 3,6 hours.

The new variant will make its official premiere at the Paris Motor Show, but is already available to order in Germany.

In the meantime, watch the video below and have a read of our driving impression of the Panamera 4S…

How much the new Porsche Panamera will cost in SA

We have local pricing for the new Porsche Panamera...

We’ve already driven the new Porsche Panamera – on the unrestricted autobahn, no less. But now Porsche South Africa has released official pricing for the second-generation, four-door model.

Two variants are set to be available locally from launch: the Panamera 4S and the Panamera Turbo.

The former is priced at R1 564 000, and makes 324 kW and 550 N.m (with peak torque on tap from 1 750 to 5 500 r/min) thanks to its 2,9-litre six-cylinder mill. With an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission linked to all-wheel drive, the Panamera 4S will sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4,4 seconds.

The Panamera Turbo, meanwhile, employs a 4,0-litre twin-turbo V8 – worth 404 kW and 770 N.m – to rocket to three figures in a claimed 3,8 seconds, before topping out at 306 km/h. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic are again standard. The price of the Panamera Turbo? R2 441 000…

While we expect the recently revealed Panamera 4 E-Hybrid to be added to the South African range at a later stage, local pricing for this derivative has yet to be revealed.

Porsche is continuing to expand the model range of the new Panamera: At the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, the sportscar manufacturer will be presenting the luxury saloon with a new 243 kW (330 hp) V6 turbo petrol engine, along with an extended Executive version as yet another body option. The new V6 turbo is a highly efficient and agile entry-level addition to the impressive range of engines. Power is up by 20 hp from the corresponding engine of the previous Panamera generation. At the same time, Porsche was able to reduce the consumption of this completely redeveloped six-cylinder petrol engine by up to 1.0 l/100 km. The new 330-hp engine is combined with rear-wheel drive in the Panamera and all-wheel drive in the Panamera 4, plus a long wheelbase in the Panamera 4 Executive.

While the Panamera and Panamera 4 with 330 hp redefine what can be expected at the entry-level end, the Executive models of the big Porsche, with their 150 millimetre longer wheelbase, expand the body and equipment portfolio at the top end of the model line. Designed as a chauffeur saloon, this Porsche is available in the all-wheel drive versions Panamera 4 Executive (243 kW / 330 hp), Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Executive (340 kW / 462 hp), Panamera 4S Executive (324 kW / 440 hp) and Panamera Turbo Executive (404 kW / 550 hp).

The new Porsche Panamera Executive versions are equipped even more exclusively. The standard features are supplemented with a large panoramic roof, heated comfort seats with multi-way electrical adjustment in the front and rear and adaptive air suspension with an electronically controlled damper system (Porsche Active Suspension Management / PASM). The roll-up sunblind behind the headrests in the rear also comes as standard. The standard equipment of the Panamera 4S Executive and Panamera Turbo Executive is even more comprehensive: Among other things, both models benefit from rear-axle steering and soft-close doors. As the most powerful model, the Panamera Turbo Executive is equipped with standard features such as four-zone climate control, LED main headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and ambient lighting.

As an option, all Porsche Panamera Executive models are available with a newly developed, large rear centre console, which can also be equipped with two integrated folding tables and an inductive antenna connection for an additional smartphone, depending on the market. Similarly to the existing Panamera models, the exterior of the Executive versions can be further individualised with a Sport design package.

Another useful equipment option, particularly for the Executive versions frequently used as chauffeur saloons in China and the USA, is the latest generation of Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment. The 10.1-inch displays integrated in the backrests of the front seats can be detached for a wide range of uses; when needed, they transform the rear of the Panamera into a fully digitalised workplace. The high-quality displays can also be used as tablets outside the vehicle.

With regard to the model line, the fully redeveloped second generation of the Panamera was introduced in the summer of 2016. The four all-wheel drive models Panamera 4S, Panamera 4S Diesel (310 kW / 422 hp), Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Panamera Turbo are already available on the market. With the addition of the new 330 hp versions and the Executive models, the Porsche Panamera range now comprises ten different models with power outputs from 330 to 550 hp.

Why anybody would want to spend a small fortune on one of the world's most rewarding sports sedans and then pay somebody else to drive it, we can't fathom, but Porsche evidently believes such people exist.

At next week's Los Angeles motor show Porsche will be launching a long-wheelbase Executive version of the Panamera, designed as a chauffeur car, as well as a new three-litre turbopetrol V6 (which is not the same as the much more powerful 2.9-litre biturbo in the existing Panamera S and 4S) for the new baseline Panamera and Panamera 4 derivatives.

The new body, with an extra 150mm of wheelbase, will be available with the new 243kW three-litre V6 as the Panamera Executive 4, the 324kW 2.9-litre biturbo V6 as the Executive 4S and the 404kW four-litre twin turbo V8 as the Executive Turbo. Each will have all-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension with electronically controlled damping, a panoramic glass roof, power-adjustable heated seats front and rear, and roll-up sunblinds behind the rear headrests.

In addition, the Executive 4S will feature rear-axle steering and soft-close doors, while the range-topping Executive Turbo will come with all that plus four-zone climate control and dynamic LED main headlights. Optional extras for the Executive models include a large rear centre console (which can also have two folding tables) and an inductive antenna connection for a second smartphone.

Panamera - R1 340 000

Panamera 4 - R1 369 000

Panamera 4 Executive - R1 477 000

Panamera 4S Executive - R1 799 000

Panamera Turbo Executive - R2 644 000
