The proper website testing thread

Oh. Sorry man. I understand now.

Hmmm. It works in IE7 (But you cannot see the writing that is hidden)... I will look for the issue with IE6 and find a solution (I assume this is what you are using). But IE6 is probably the worst browser ever, for CSS design etc.. It behaves nothing like other browsers.

Now we on the same page :)

I just check'd it again and now it's fine. Just like you mentioned the hiden text is not showing, the customer part.

Appart from that think it might have just been the machine.

I understand the box is meant to jump up and down. Was doing it more earlier IIRC. The other problem is that some of the text gets overlapped when the pop-up box is stationary at the bottom. The line that is overlapped is "you do not need this, we wont charge you for it.".

Possibly because of my resolution? 1024x768.

Ok. Uploaded the new one. Validates correctly. And works in my IE7. Will check IE6 tomorrow.

I just removed the text, and will get some smarter people to help with what text should go on the site.

Fixed the text resizing problem. Up to 2 clicks. And then the writing is huge. so any bigger, and no site will look good. Changed the logo a bit.

Please fix your site buddy. For the services you offer it is slightly unrefined.

Check my site in the link in my signature. Little to no effort and it looks very good. Or at least I think so...

From the basic website design principals that I remember from the top of my head, I've picked up an issue. When hovering over the "Website design" and "Windows Application" images, the mouse cursor doesn't change into the little hand that normally indicates a link. It's inconsistant with the other links on your site and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some people don't realise they're links at all. Probably has to do with your Navlink class in your CSS file since I see you've assigned a non-standard style to it(presumably to remove those annoying borders around linked images). Also on the home page, the drop down black bit looks really nice but I don't like how it only drops down to RIGHT under the bottom text. Looks a bit unrefined. Maybe have it drop down a few pixels more?

Browsing further through the site I see that some links make use of the default underlined blue and some don't. Inconsistency such as this confuses users and I can guarantee that a usability study will show this to be true. Also, it is recommended in general that one makes use of the default underlined blue scheme for links. If this isn't possible, make sure users are aware of what are links and what not.

For some reason your navigation bar at the top changes size for each of the different pages?

Overall, I really like your minimalist design and colour scheme. Nice site.

trek mambo, interesting site, but I've found a broken link. Try doing a search from the homepage and hitting the "back" link. Doesn't do anything that I can notice. Also, there's no way of getting back to your homepage directly from the search page.

edit - And if you go to "About us" there's some broken code there.

A joomla template doesnt strike me as professional. But it does look nice

They do when I hover over them. What browser are you using?
(Except on that particular page [ie: Website design]. But it is not a link then, you are already on the page)

I have added a few more pixels. If your browser is set to normal text size, it should look better now, and a bit smoother.

The text was more like a Lorem ispsum space filler. I have removed it, and will replace it with the real text soon. I will make the links consistent when I do though. Thanks

If you mean that it was vertical on the home page, then that is a problem with my markup. I have fixed that. If you mean that it slightly changes size by a few pixels, this is just an eye trick, as a longer word that is bold will take up less space than a short bold word. And the current page is bolded.

Overall, I really like your minimalist design and colour scheme. Nice site.
Thanks. I appreciate the comments. I decided to upload it early in process to make sure that I listen to other people and don't just make it how I like it. I was not intending it to be live now. I have just mentioned it here, and to a few friends to test.

He seemed to have fixed these. Clicking the title goes to the home page, and back works :D

Hmmm. Are you just selling Joomla templates? Are you allowed to sell Joomla templates, seems they are opensource? I have not read the documentation. Looks very nice though.:D

Hey.
Lets start a proper website testing thread. There has been many, but they are normally just for one site. So maybe we can have a thread for this.

Just throw your site in here, and have a look at all the mean comments you get for it.

Let's start with mine. www.krisadams.co.za

First of all. I know that the Navigation in the top of the homepage doesnt show right. I didnt close a div tag, but can only fix it later. The text is just in creation mode, so will fix it all once I have gotten some comments.

Much better now ;)

Haha, struggled to remember this thread.

Yeah my small business does some proffesional looking sites for the layman... I have fixed prices and try to make things as simple as possible. I sell templates but I have external designing teams doing the work and I run it all on Joomla or Wordpress depending on what the needs are. From domain name registration to hosting I do everything in one.

The difficult part is to get customers though.

edit: BTW Kris your site looks damn good now ;)
