Media Advisory: De Kock out for 2-4 weeks with wrist injury

Monday, 05 February 2018

Standard Bank Proteas wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Momentum One-Day International (ODI) series and upcoming T20 International series against India due to a left wrist injury. De Kock sustained the injury during the second ODI against India at SuperSport Park on Sunday, and will require 2-4 weeks to make a recovery.

Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee explained the injury: “ Quinton suffered an extreme blow to the left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday and felt severe pain and discomfort. Further investigation revealed severe bony bruising to the area, with associated swelling around the tendon in the wrist. This type of injury will require between 2-4 weeks to heal, which subsequently rules him out of the remainder of the ODI and T20 series against India. The Cricket South Africa medical team will aim to have him ready for the Test series against Australia starting next month.”

The selectors will not name a replacement for De Kock in the squad.

Golf game's still good as injured AB plays a round

https://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/Proteas/golf-games-still-good-as-injured-ab-plays-a-round-20180203

Cape Town - Despite being ruled out of the opening three (of six) One Day Internationals (ODI) against India with a finger injury, star batsman AB de Villiers was spotted on the fairways of Pretoria Country Club earlier in the week.

Late last Tuesday afternoon, January 30, Cricket South Africa (CSA) issued a statement confirming De Villiers had sustained a finger injury in the third and final Test against India at the Wanderers and would require "up to two weeks to make a full recovery".

The statement went on to confirm that the medical team, under the guidance of Dr Mohammed Moosajee, were hopeful De Villiers would be fit in time for selection for the fourth 'Pink' ODI on Saturday, February 10.

Always irks me to read stuff like this.

So he should be a hermit waiting at home to get better?

I've been questioning his loyalty to the team ... this is another example of AB doing a Shabir Shaik

Cricketers must have terrible sex lives.
It's either the groin or the finger that gets injured.

I have always backed Duminy, but its time for him to go! Poor performance by the Proteas in this limited overs series.

Morkel to retire from international cricket after Australia series

Monday, 26 February 2018

Standard Bank Proteas fast bowler, Morne Morkel, has announced he will retire from all forms of international cricket at the conclusion of the four-match Sunfoil Test series against Australia starting in Durban on Thursday.

The 33-year-old has played 83 Tests, 117 One-Day Internationals and 44 T20 Internationals in a successful career spanning 12 years. He has taken 294 Test wickets - including seven five-fors - and is currently the fifth highest all-time wicket-taker for South Africa in Test matches. He has an impressive tally of 529 wickets across the three formats.

Explaining his decision, Morkel said: “It was an extremely tough decision but I feel the time is right to start a new chapter. I have a young family and a foreign wife, and the current demanding international schedule has put a lot of strain us. I have to put them first and this decision will only benefit us going forward.

“I have loved every minute that I have played in the Proteas jersey, and I am incredibly grateful to my team mates, Cricket South Africa, and my family and friends for the support over the years. I still feel there is a lot of cricket left in me and I am excited for what lies ahead. For now, all of my energy and focus is on helping the Proteas win the upcoming series against Australia.”

Cricket South Africa Acting CE, Thabang Moroe, praised Morkel’s commitment and contribution towards South African cricket: “On Behalf of Cricket South Africa, I would like to thank Morne for the tremendous and highly valued contribution he has made to South African cricket over the past decade.

“He has been a regular selection for both the Standard Bank Proteas Test and ODI squads since 2008, having made his debut as far back as 2006. He has formed part of the golden era of fast bowlers that have made the South African Test team a champion outfit that is respected throughout the world.

“Being a champion fast bowler is one of the most difficult professions in the sporting world. It requires tremendous skill, dedication and perseverance and, by no means the least, the courage to bowl through the pain barrier at times. Those are characteristics Morne has shown throughout his career.

“ Lastly, on behalf of the South African cricket family, our stakeholders and fans around the world, we thank Morne for being both a fine player and an outstanding role model who has made our country proud. We wish him everything of the best in his future endeavours.”

Ah man! Go well Morne. You always had your detractors but I enjoyed watching you bowl. Here's hoping he goes out with a bang and really sticks it to the Ozzies.

Can't help but feel that Morne has not fully fulfilled his potential. I have this feeling that he should have had more wickets. But it could also be due to the success of Dale and Vernon.

Go Well Morne!

Took him 10 years to discover how to bowl full and now he quits right after he discovers the magic.

Another one who didn't fulfill his potential.
