Lets pick up every time the ANC government plays the race card in the media. In fact for everyone and anyone. From what I have noticed, only racists play the race card. This works both ways. Try find the daftest reasons the race card is played.

Yengeni criticism is 'selective racism'

The Arts and Culture Ministry has sprung to the defence of senior African National Congress member Tony Yengeni, who is under fire from animal lovers over his ritual stabbing of a bull at the weekend.

This is not a matter for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals [SPCA] because it goes much deeper than cruelty to animals, said the ministry on Tuesday.

"It is the constitutional right of all indigenous families, groups and families to perform rituals that they believe reconnect them to their ancestors."

Ministerial spokesperson Sandile Memela rejected criticism of the act as "selective racism that condemns this specific African ritual".

I agree with him fully ... it is selective racism ... nobody moans about the Spanish slaugtering and torturing bulls but just let the black man do it and suddenly they are backwards and cavemen.

We live in Africa and not bloody Europe and the bulk of our society still places a premuim on their various cultural traditions which involves the ritual killing of animals ... no different from the stuff they do to them in an abbatoir so that I can do my own cultural ritual of a braaivleis and dop.

Some folks in this country esp the SPCA could do well to remember this little fact.

Quotes from Gandhi:

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.

I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.

I feel that spiritual progress does demand at some stage that we should cease to kill our fellow creatures for the satisfaction of our bodily wants.

my 2c.

spanish people live in spain. go moan about their laws to them. south africa has it's own laws. dont be cruel to animals. if you dont like those laws then fsck off to spain:-) else, sit in a corner and abide by the laws.

maybe the law is wrong (like the apartheid laws were wrong) but for the time being it is the law.

you also cant do 200km/h on the motorway in s.a. legally, even though germany has an autobahn.

Exactly. Why should others do penance for your own misgivings. It is sick, barbaric and very primitive. Why do they not rather take their own spoiled and blotted life? Would do the world a favor.
This is when the wheels fall off when democracy and values are being mixed in the same sentence.

Totally double standards. Crueltheid would be a nice name to give to this evil?

Ghandi was a Hindu ... hello ... they don't eat meat ... no wonder he said this nonsense.

It is rather irrelevant.

dont be cruel to animals.

Cutting it's throat and letting it bleed out or stabbing it with a spear or shooting a bolt in it's head is not cruelty ... it is called slaughtering/killing it.

SPCA is full of crap.

The Spanish are routinely condemned too for their little atavistic displays; Also, at least there the bull has a sporting chance of killing the matador! Seems to scupper your argument doesn't it?

Yeah Tibby, the SPCA is just out to get the black fellas. Its actually a front for a Right Wing, Neo-Nazi, Black Hating organisation.

Tell you what, seeing as tho the ANC are your mates why dont you lobby for an ammendment of the animal anti-cruelty act which the SPCA is trying to enforce?

Actually I moaned about the spanish way of doing it, and pointed that out in the other thread. pfff

A sporting chance ... hahahaha ... let's review the stats of matodors killed by bulls since they started keeping score.

killed by the bull Barbudo.

- 20th April 1862 - José Rodríguez ("Pepete"),
killed by the bull Jocinero.

- 16th May 1920 - José Gómez ("Joselito"),

- 7th May 1922 - Manuel Granero,

Dont be daft.

Good Quote Freshy.

Customary practices aside, killing an animal in an inhumane way is primitive and needs a cultural overhaul.
If people don't like this statement they should take a long hard look at themselves first and place themselves at some point on the "evolution calender".
They may or may not get a shock, depending on where they are on that calender as they may find themselves having one foot still in the stone age and wouldn't know any better.

Goes to show how diverse the world's cultures are.
In India where Ghandi came from, the Cow/Bull is sacred.

I would rather become a vegetarian than kill an animal in public.

Shhh! Don't go letting the cat out of the bag --- we don't want just everyone to know that SPCA is really an acronym for Society for the Preservation of Caucasian Attitudes....

I am willing to wager that the folks in the SPCA who made the decision to take action are not black.

You are backing this up with what? Or is it just trolling? Could you also please explain to me, how I am being racist in my comments.
