The Renault Duster Thread

I think I will probably look at replacing my i30 with the current-gen Duster when the new one hits the market in late 2018. By then you should be able to buy a 1.5dci in 4x4 guise for very little dosh :)

Does the Duster ride and handle well? it looks so tough and hard, I wonder how it fares in the Moose test?

Solid on the road. Not the best NVH relative to the "newer" crossover rivals but more than acceptable. Lots of hard plastics inside though, which could be a good or bad thing. For a crossover handling is fine. Never any danger of failing the Moose test imo.

Dacia Duster 2018 review

Should I buy one?

There’s a lot to like about the new Duster, then. It drives well enough, is comfortable enough, looks good and has sufficient space to suit the needs of the average family.

It’s not as complete or refined as the more traditional offerings in the segment (think the Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan), but it costs a fraction of their respective asking prices, so some compromise is to be expected.

If you can overlook these things, chances are you won’t be disappointed with the Duster. Its three-star Euro NCAP safety rating isn't great, but it's expected to retain 55% of its value after three years and 36,000 miles, which isn’t bad.

As an incredibly low-cost way of transporting a family and their associated clobber from A to B, then, the Duster is basically in a class of one. Well, if you rule out the option of buying a used car, that is.

Renault Duster (2018) International Launch Review

The Renault Duster SUV has been comprehensively updated, replete with fresh styling and extra kit. Our UK correspondent recently spent some time with the new Duster along the South Hampshire coast…

The Duster compact family car has been produced jointly by Renault and its Romanian subsidiary, Dacia, since 2010. In the UK, it is marketed under the Dacia brand, but in many parts of the world – including South Africa – it bears Renault’s more widely recognised, diamond badge.

Renault introduced the Duster in South Africa in October 2013. Those early models were imported from India, where it is still produced for other right-hand drive markets, but since September 2015, when South Africa received the facelifted Duster, units were imported from Pitesti, Romania.

The 2018 Renault Duster is expected to be introduced to the South African media in the coming weeks/months, at which time the order books for the new model will open to the public. First deliveries can be expected later in the year and into early 2019.

Summary

The current Renault Duster continues to sell around 150 units a month in South Africa as it draws towards the end of its current lifecycle; in its heyday, the Duster enjoyed monthly sales of around twice that number. Active and passive safety kit shortfalls are largely to blame as competitors continue to enhance their safety offerings – mostly due to market-driven concerns.

However, this new, much more cheerful Duster is expected to re-energise demand. It’s more refined, visibly better built and can easily hold its own against pricier rivals such as the Renault Captur and Nissan Juke – just don’t expect quite the same level of polish – you get what you pay for.

Despite its bargain-basement price, the 2018 Renault Duster makes for perfectly comfortable everyday transport. Hopefully, when Renault introduces the new Duster later this year, the French marque will be able to keep pricing as keen as it is: in an around the R300k mark.

All-new Renault Duster revealed for SA

With more than two million models sold globally, the Duster remains a flagship for the Renault Range. In August, the automaker reveals it's all-new Duster boasting new exterior styling and enhanced off-road capability.

Although it appears visually more assertive, the new SUV features the same compact dimensions. It sports bold, horizontal lines, new 17" wheels ensuring a more assertive profile, new aluminium roof bars that are more prominent, and front and rear skid plates that support its adventurer credentials.

Bigger and better

It will be available from October in either petrol or diesel engines; with the Diesel engines in Manual, EDC and 4X4 options.

It boasts even greater off-road capabilities due to improved ground clearance of 210mm, higher approach and departure angles and the introduction of Hill Descent Control in the 4X4 Model.

The vehicle offers a step-up in quality with an upgraded interior for a more comfortable and user-friendly cabin experience. The dashboard has been completely redesigned.

It boasts newly designed and more enveloping seats, numerous easily accessible stowage spaces and improved accessibility of controls, and amongst others, an enhanced Multimedia experience.

It is distinct through its range of high-class equipment to facilitate everyday driving, such as a multi-view camera; Blind Spot Warning; Automatic Climate Control; Hill Descent Control and Keyless Entry.

The All-New Renault Duster has a bolder personality, both inside and out, and is now way better equipped to take the SUV Market by storm.

New Renault Duster Coming Soon

The popular Renault Duster will be replaced with an all-new version which will be available in local showrooms from the 1 October 2018, according to Renault South Africa.
With over a 2-million units sold globally since its launch, the Renault Duster has proven popular thanks to a combination of value-for-money, capability and practicality. Now, the latest version of the Duster is headed for South Africa and will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel-powered Duster will be offered with either a manual or EDC transmission as well as in 4x4 guise.

The all-new Duster will wear a new grille with LED daytime running lights and revised scratch resistant skid plates. Other key exterior features include new 17-inch alloy wheels, new-look rear lights and a wider rear skid plate which adds to the Duster's rugged appeal. The windscreen has been repositioned and sits 100 mm forward to increase cabin space. The look is rounded off with new aluminium roof bars. The new Duster has a ground clearance of 210mm with higher approach and departure angles while the introduction of Hill Descent Control on the 4x4 Duster will further enhance its capability in the rough stuff.

Renault has also improved interior material quality and the new Duster will feature a revised dashboard design with additional air vents and updated switchgear. Other features you can expect in the new Duster include a multi-view camera, blind spot warning, automatic climate control and keyless entry. Renault South Africa, however, has yet to release official information regarding engines and specification for the South African market.

Much of the Duster's success in South Africa can be partly attributed to the fact that the Duster is one of the only compact family cars, apart from the Suzuki Vitara, to be offered in 4-wheel drive guise, making it an ideal vehicle for active families. The Duster also features generous specification and along with competitive pricing, it has managed to do good business on local soil. Renault South Africa will likely adopt the same value-for-money strategy for the new Duster and if the exchange rate complies, the Duster's success is bound to continue when the new model arrives in October 2018.
