Renault Kwid versus Datsun Go: Which has the best resale value at auctions?

Two entry-level cars are finding their ways into the hearts and driveways of South African motorists. They are the Renault Kwid and the Datsun Go. Both are affordable cars. However, when the time comes to sell, which will achieve the better resale value at auctions.

The answer is the Renault Kwid. According to Darryl Jacobson, managing director of True Price, it beats the Datsun Go by a substantial margin. "This is an extremely important factor to consider prior to signing on the dotted line. It could make a big financial difference when the time comes to sell. One should always consider depreciation before buying a new car," he warns.

Jacobson explains. "Using the data gathered on bank repossession auctions, we are able to generate a statistically valid resale figure. It is expressed as a percentage of the original retail sales price,” he says."

Review: 2019 Renault Kwid 1.0-litre Dynamique - wheels24

South African motorists love small vehicles as much as they love SUV's and bakkies, this basically gives an answer as to why Renault decided to design the Kwid as a mini-SUV looking vehicle.

Since the launch of the Kwid in November 2016, over 23 000 models have been sold in South Africa alone and the model still sells strong in excess of 700 models a month, with 1098 units sold in August.

I find the Kwid to be nippy and the 2019 model made a great comeback where safety features are concerned by adding an anti-lock braking system, seat-belt warning alarms, and remote central locking.

It's 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder powered engine is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox that delivers an outstanding 4.7/100km and pushes out a peak of 50kW.

Any first time driver will enjoy its drivability and how responsive this model is even at low revs.

2020 Renault Kwid Climber Facelift Spied Undisguised With SUV-ish Design - GaadiWaadi

716133

The 2020 Renault Kwid facelift will launch in the coming months and will be available with BSVI-compliant engines and various styling upgrades that will come from Triber.

The 2020 Renault Kwid Climber facelift carries a comprehensively updated front fascia which looks a lot like the front-end of the K-ZE electric vehicle that has just been launched in China.

A highlight of the front styling package is the multi-tier lighting arrangement. This lighting setup was first seen on the Tata Harrier and is now even available on the MG Hector, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Venue.

The headlamps of the 2020 Renault Kwid facelift are positioned on the front bumper, while a sleek pair of LED DRL's is positioned at the hood-level. The front-end even carries a new bumper that houses a wider grille.

The latter is in line with the company’s latest styling language and a similar arrangement is seen on almost all of its latest models.

In the side profile, the 2020 Renault Kwid facelift gets alloy wheels, at least on the Climber variant. Now, this is an upgrade that many have been waiting for as the Kwid has so far been available only with steel wheels.

The rear-end gets revised tail lamps that have C-shaped LED inserts to enhance the overall appeal of the Maruti Alto and S-Presso rival.

Even the interior of the 2020 Renault Kwid facelift will carry a handful of updates. The current digital instrumentation of the Kwid will make way for the same unit that is available on the Triber.

Other than that, the car will even receive the same touchscreen infotainment unit that is available on the recently launched MPV. The cabin will also have colour-coordinated door handles, AC surrounds and gear lever bezel.

Fresh-faced, ‘SUV-inspired’ Renault Kwid revealed!

Renault has lifted the wraps off the facelifted Renault Kwid city hatchback.

Sporting an “SUV-inspired” design, the fresh-faced Kwid measures 3 731 mm in length (up by 52 mm). Ground clearance has increased, too; compared to the pre-facelifted model’s 180 mm, the remodelled Kwid has gains an extra 4 mm. Wheelbase (2 422 mm) and width (1 579 mm) has remained unchanged. The French automaker says the enhanced dimensions offer improved levels of comfort to occupants.

The most notable update to the Kwid is its redesigned front end. The revised front grille is flanked by slim light clusters, complete with LED daytime running lights. Sited below these items, the headlamps have been moved to the more pronounced front bumper. Roof rails have been fitted to the boomerang-shaped roof, while an integrated spoiler can be found at the rear.

Renault Kwid Restyled for 2020

Renault has applied some SUV-inspired design updates to its Kwid budget car, see details below...
Although not immediately noticeable, the Kwid has grown slightly in size. It's 52 mm longer bumper-to-bumper, whilst the width remains unchanged.

The popular entry-level crossover sees a significant redesign for the 2020 model year. The most noticeable visual change is a new split headlight configuration, which positions LED daytime running lights at either end of the grille. Renault’s stylists have also repositioned the main headlamps in a lower position within the front bumper.

There are no mechanical changes to the facelifted Kwid. Engine options continue to be a 0.8-litre 3-cylinder, which produces 40kW and 72Nm. The slightly larger 1.0-litre engine is good for 50kW and 91Nm. Gearbox choices are either a 5-speed manual or an automated manual.

The new Kwid has slightly increased ground clearance compared to its predecessor, adding 4 mm of hight. With 184 mm of underbody clearance, it is particularly well adapted to gravel roads and surviving pothole strikes, which is particularly useful in a South African context.

The facelifted Renault Kwid can be expected to reach South Africa in the first half of 2020 and local specification and pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.

Due in SA soon: Renault's Kwid gets a makeover

Renault’s little Kwid has been a sales hit from day one, both in South Africa, and in its home market of India, showing that buyers are undoubtedly hungry for stylish vehicles with affordable price tags, even if there are a few question marks over its safety credentials.

But with no intention of letting it go stale, Renault has just pulled the covers off a heavily updated Kwid in India, and according to our local Renault contact, the company is aiming to get it onto local showroom floors by the first quarter of 2020 at the latest.

Renault has completely redesigned the front end of the Kwid, which now has a two-tier lighting system of the kind that’s all the rage these days. The top section consists of daytime running lights, which merge seamlessly with the chrome elements on the redesigned grille. Round back, the taillights retain their familiar shape, but get C-shaped LED light patterns.

As before, the Kwid rides higher than regular cars, with the ground clearance raised slightly from 180mm to 184mm, but the most welcome news is the fitment of 14-inch wheels in place of the previous 13” rims, something that should improve stability. Unfortunately, the wheels still have only three lug nuts, meaning you can’t accessories with bigger wheels.

While the cabin also retains its basic design layout, there are a number of enhancements, including a more comprehensive digital instrument cluster that includes a new rev counter. Also available is a larger 20.3cm MediaNav Evolution touchscreen infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as video playback, voice recognition and a reverse camera.

As before, the line-up is topped by a ‘Climber’ derivative, which adds unique body cladding, darker wheels as well as numerous orange accents both inside and out.

The mechanicals remain unchanged, with power coming from a 50kW, 91Nm 1-litre, three-cylinder normally aspirated petrol engine, but Renault has enhanced the suspension system with the aim of improving the ride quality.
