The ridiculous billing amounts thread

I have suspicion they wanna make those non-free/put up additional guantries tho as I've seen them count traffic in the mornings along alt routes and then the other day they deployed traffic meters all the way to & the including on ramp o the highway :(

I also noticed a few temporary traffic counters deployed on the old JHB/PTA road this week.
Maybe they're trying to calculate how much strain the e-tolling is putting on the back roads.

Mine is R0 :D as I use the free sections for now.. Unlikely road act specifically states there has to be alternative routes, there is nothing about it being reasonable, it's actually a constitutional right as well, not that constitutional rights mean much in this country.

No. The requirement for alternatives was quietly removed years ago

My bill is more than R3000, I'm going to get tagged, most of my colleagues and friends have. SANRAL wins... :(

Maybe it's time you look at getting new friends. I do not know anyone that is paying, so Scamral is definitely not winning. Maybe you are a Scamral agent trying to dangle a carrot here..... Mmmmm. Good luck either way.

My opinion: in the past I avoided highways and took back roads, now that there are tolls the back roads are backed up and the highway takes half the time the back Road took before tolls.

Won't get tagged just yet but if my route remains way it is I would pay R450 with a smile as I can leave during peak traffic and spend less time driving.

I hear scamrail are offering a backdated discount to people that pay, seems they are getting desperate now.

But it won't remain that way because the road infrastructure is not being expanded to cope with the increasing volumes of traffic.
A couple of years from now the Gauteng highways are going to look like the back roads except that you'll be paying for the inconvenience.

Technically there are alternatives so they could put in a few more Gauntries. But here's the thing.. I've been driving these routes at night and early moving and there is an insane amount of trucks taking these routes like old jhb/pta.

The road condition is bad and likely the worst and most dangerous for pedestrians as they walk on the side of the road, which has little to no road lights road run off being extreme due to downpour.

I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been major accidents thus far as I've had incidents where vehicles are driving with full brights on the narrow sections and pedestrians crossing in dark clothes

Now is when the hammer is going to fall, it's all being fun and games until now. The powers that be don't have to worry about elections any more and will start applying pressure. Now it's time to see whose will is stronger, SANRAL hasn't won yet, but every one who caves and gets tagged is a point for them.

That would be interesting. Seeing if there is a correlation between accidents on non highways over the periods when etolls were implemented and when it wasn't. Eg. Comparing accidents from Dec 2012-May2013 with Dec 2013-May2014. Also, compare road maintenance costs of non highway roads over the same period.
