Full disclosure, I have never watched the Bokke live, so no idea how the tickets get sold. Anyone know when/how to get tickets for:

Castle Lager Rugby Championship:
16 August:
SA v Australia – Emirates Airline Park, Johannesburg

Poor by the Lions losing like that at home.
Stormers were also iffy, at least they squeaked through

Well done Bulls but still so many mistakes.
I watched F1 quali yesterday, so didn't watch Bulls 2nd half. I see the ref made a big mistake which resulted in Munster being a player short for 14 mins. That's a pretty huge officiating error

Quite ridiculous actually. Once again poor officiating is the taking point rather than what transpires on the field.

Just shows you how complicated and obfuscated the sport has become. Regulated into oblivion to the point where 4 officials couldn't correctly work out the playing conditions.

I don't think this was a complicated rules issue - although it was a rare/fringe occurrence - it was just the ref not knowing the laws. I'm not sure one can effectively simplify the rules governing this situation

At one point the ref remarked that the game has got too many rules. However the no contest scrums still disadvantaged the Bulls.

Anyone knows when the ticket sales for the Bokke games opening up?

Lions were piss poor - why am I still supporting this team?
Close wins for our other teams but Stormers should have won by more. Ref call at the end saving their behinds. Sharks also battled. With so many Boks I don't understand why though.

A team full of internationals is never a guarantee of success, particularly when they haven't played together in a while. Cohesiveness and understanding are just as important as the names on the teamsheet.

I recall several years ago, the Sharks 'second stringers' had taken them to the Currie Cup final while the Boks were away on national duty. The final coincided with the Boks coming back and understandably, they were parachuted into the team for the final. This backfired spectacularly as an unfancied Province side beat them in the final at the Sharktank.

If the same Sharks team plays this coming weekend against Ulster, I expect them to be a lot better.

I think Munster didn't know the law there either because surely they could have sent a waterboy or mascot or something to tell the ARs & ref "hey... let's check this, we think you're wrong."

I watched the Bulls/Munster game yesterday only.

What an incredible game! Low scoring but tense and exciting. It had a test match intensity about it.

I thought the ref was generally quite poor but that's pretty much the state of the game and not a reflection on the ref.

A lot has been written in the media over the error and the uncontested scrums. The scrums were an area the Bulls were dominating, so while being down a man isn't ideal, this did neutralize a source of Bulls advantage. And then when the error was identified and Munster returned to 15 men, injury to front row forwards meant the game went back to uncontested scrums. Bit ironic.

Anyway, I thought it was an incredible effort from the Bulls. Historic too. No SA URC side has beaten Munster at home. Bulls also finish the season 4 from 4 against Irish URC sides. You can criticize and belittle Jake White as much as you like, call for his resignation, call for a new coach etc etc etc. Jake is an outstanding coach, period.

I have never been one to criticise his credentials. He has been a bit negative regarding having the best players in SA and so on which I understand but I'd prefer if everyone locally just rolled up their sleeves and said "Right, how do we overcome this?". To his credit, he has been more positive of late.

Fleck and Malleet mentioned on Boks Office a while ago that we should really be focusing on the Champions Cup and Mallet mentioned there's probably around 13 tests a year for the Boks for the top players. So leave them out of the URC altogether much like Leinster and play them only in the Champions Cup. Use the URC to develop your players instead of sending development teams over to Europe to compete in KO matches.

That way, a player like Eben could play test match rugby and CC rugby. Limiting his games to 20-22 games a year or so which is below the 30 or 32 they are allowed to play.

They also get extended breaks then. Win-win.

Personally I'm a big fan of Jake White as both a person and a coach. He does make noise regarding player drain but I feel it's entirely vindicated. It's the same for every franchise but I don't think we appreciate the extent of the challenge.

Re the Champions cup. Our full strength squads are adequately competitive. In order to qualify for Champions cup you must finish top 8 in URC. I get Mallets thinking but finishing top 8 without any internationals wouldn't be guaranteed. I don't see how leaving internationals out would be feasible for both club and player? The club would be losing a competitive edge in URC and the players would be losing out on match fees and a source of income. Doesn't make sense to me. Leinster usually exclude their internationals only when they all but qualified. Leinster are probably the only example of a club with enough depth to be able to do this. I'm sorry but I'm going to have to vehemently disagree with Mallet on this...

I do see the value of Boks competing in the CC though. That would be a massive boost for a comp that has lost a lot of it's allure over the years. The standard of CC rugby is below par though.

What we can agree on, the amount of rugby our boys are playing now is ridiculous. There is barely any sort of meaningful break. The solution to that is to bolster the squads. Plenty of talent coming through the schoolboy system but not yet of the standard required to compete in URC and/or Champions Cup. Personally, and this might be somewhat contentious but I would want SA franchisees to abstain from competing in Champions Cup and Challenge Cup, for the foreseeable future....
