Emerging Ireland?

If our players are good and the coaching is good, then you should be good enough to overcome the issue of not having played as a team...

I think the tides have turned and SA Rugfby is once again on a downward trend sadly. Narrow minded coaching IMO
Emerging Ireland played a bunch of minnow unions in SA and a Cheetahs side that hadn't played much in a long time.

They lost heavily v the NZ select XV.

I like getting the breakdowns before the game on this channel. Two cents does a great job especially when I haven't really followed what the opposition teams have been doing.

I find the backline a strange combination. De Allende and Kriel arguably the least passing centres in the game combined with probably the two most explosive running wings Kolbe and Arendse in SA who I just don't see getting the ball very much.

Maybe they are thinking Le Roux will get the backline moving?

With the kicking game atleast we can bring on Libbock when Willemse messes it up. I hope Libbock has a good start but you never know how people do when playing for SA.
The Boks have been saying how France kick long etc so either they really plan to run back at them as per this article - https://supersport.com/rugby/genera...ing-different-from-boks-against-unique-french or they intend to influence the French plan.

Despite what they are saying about getting on the outside of them etc. I expect many box kicks from the Boks.

The pick n go and the box kicks are so 2019. Our inability to generate momentum with strike moves from forwards and backs are the reason we will lose against France and is the reason we are on a downward trend sadly.

This seems to be a minset from coaching and players as soon as the green and goldgets worn.

Very sad and disappointing.

With the amount of forward dominance we get in most games we should be hovering around an 80% win percentage. Part of me thinks the amount of games our players have been through over the last 2 years or so is inhibiting our effectiveness when mauling but also more likely is that we miss Matt Proudfoot's expertise.

The reason I lean to the latter is because we still dominate most scrums and other aspects of forward play, it's just our maul that isn't working.

There are no real moves off set plays but rather a very risk-averse mindset. The only time we try something is when we have a penalty advantage. If it doesn't come off, we kick for the corner and maul or take the three.

We do but if like last night our maul gets stopped, we need to have other plans. What was really heartbreaking to see is how Munster mauled our forwards to pieces to score a try yet not once could we generate any momentum from our mauls.

Really hope Japan beat England. Would be a fantastic way to see out the weekend!

A box kick is only as good as its contestability. When executed properly, it is a potent weapon, as we saw when used to great effect in the dominant win against the All Blacks in Nelspruit earlier this year. What I want to see more of are little kicks in behind the advancing defensive line. Ireland were quick out the blocks in shutting down our attack but a chip into empty space behind ever so often would have made them second guess that idea.

Can agree. We just need to play traditional SA rugby (I.e. run with the ball and be physical as ****, also passing to the backs...).

The moment Williams came on (he didn't constantly kick the ball away), the team started to get momentum.

Well I just knew that were weren't going to win it but yeah I was hoping for it to be a close game not completely outplayed by a Munster team currently struggling in the URC.

It pretty much tells you SA Rugby is gone and zero chance of winning the world cup.
A bit dramatic don't you think? We lost by a cat's whiskers against a top-form Irish team last week. We just came short of winning the most tightly contested TRC in years.

Our second team (which seems to be more of an experiment than anything since most of the second-tier players are in the Springbok lineup) will of course not be as good as a Springbok prime lineup. I wasn't exactly expecting them to trounce Munster 89 - 0 or anything...

We just need to stop with the box kicks and Herschel just need to leave honestly...

Auto-correct? I assume you mean Willie?

It only takes losing by 1 point to be knocked out. Right now as it stands we are just not getting it right. We should be starting to show some form instead we lose against Munster and Ireland.

Yes we just need to keep the opposition back 3 always back even on defence. Small kicks over the top into space so they need to keep people back to cover then the gaps will open for us. Instead we just keep running off singlke channels at the breakdown and it's not effective if the opposition fronts up and just make non stop tackles and eventually you give away the penalty for off feet at the breakdown because the ref sees this as killing the game.

In 2018 we won 50% of our games and lost to England and Wales on our EOYT and then we won the RC and RWC the following year.

I'm not happy with the losses or the way they play most of the time but that's some perspective. Ireland were dominating in 2018 and came horribly unstuck in 2019 so for me 2023 needs to be the breakthrough year prior to the RWC because we need to carry some form and confidence into that tournament.

So Rassie has brought us the "Bomb squad" strategy that got us the World cup.

Nienaber brings us the "Nobody who can kick through the goalpoasts " strategy. Let's see how this goes.

Agreed. Okes need to take a chill pill

Roos initially not called up to either squad, then called up because of injury concerns, specifically to Wiese.

Now Wiese is out and Kwagga takes his place with Deon Fourie on the bench.

Roos not in A squad and seemingly not part of Bok plans but he is in Europe.

We're toggling between 3 and 4 ranked in the world and your opinion is that SA rugby is gone?
We've won over 60% of the games we've played, most of which were ahead of us at some point in rankings this year.

We're living in one of the best times of rugby, where nearly any one of the top 10 teams can beat another on a given day. For probably the first time in history the world cup could easily be won by 5 or 6 different countries. Incredibly exciting stuff.

Calm down man
