As an aside the only thing that stopped Am in the 80'th minute, considering the strictness of tackles these days, was a very dodgey tackle from North, which went unnoticed.

Well, I was there. Was nice rubbing into the Loftus crowd that you need a WP man to win a game at Loftus, silly banter only.

Was really nice though to sit maskless in a packed stadium with a common goal. The crowd tried but the performance let the crowd down, to be honest.

Shouted and cheered. I hope I have a voice later.

It was a win for SA both on and off the pitch.

And a clean sweep by the South over the North over the weekend with the Argies beating Scotland.

Nice

After the Aus game, Eddie looks and sounds blasted in this post match interaction.

I think the cards handed out was accurate.

They were for infringements that stopped the boks momentum which will always be a card.

If you look at the other international games also when a team pick and go close to the try line the ref always has his hand out for offside, hands in ruck, high tackle etc.
Indeed. Also for accumulation. The amount of off side penalties conceded certainly warranted cards being dished out. He even warned Biggar that they'd be sanctioned if it continued. Not the best reffing performance but certainly not the worst.

There are a lot salty Wales fans (and Brits in general it seems), stating we were handed the game by the ref; pushing this "boring" rugby narrative. Yet SA completely steam-rolled their pack and their terrible discipline cost them even more. Great teams still win even when they are poor.

Winning with that deficit was impressive. Can only imagine how well we would do if we got our backline going.

A structured defensive oriented gameplan that generates close matches that we statistically win by a small margin is playing way below our potential. Against the All Blacks there is some logic to it because any gameplan that can bring them down to our level and give us a 3 point win on the odd occasion is about as good as most good teams can get, but against softer teams we are avoiding the utter demolition we could inflict if we played more attacking rugby in addition to our incredible forward play.

The bottom line is we are leaving points on the field.

Always happy to win but the Boks had a shocking game. Elton was useless.
Luckily we played better in the 2nd half, thanks to the Bomb squad, Willemse and Willie.
I thought the ref was decent and Wales only have themselves to blame for their loss - indiscipline can cost you.
Hopefully we are better in the 2nd test.

Better win the next test because Cape Town will be the most comfortable environment for Wales and there will be no altitude as a "handicap".

2020 was planned as a depth building year which we lost because of covid. 2021 was the lions tour so they had to play first choice players and chose a very conservative gameplan because we hadn't played much up to that point and complexity was the enemy. So now they are in a situation where they want to execute old plans around certain players in an attempt to build depth, but like i hinted at before, my worry is if we get stuck with old plans and don't focus on what is in front of us or what is coming in the future i think we will get caught napping because other teams are figuring us out.

Our forwards will be fine but we need a backline that is better than average.

Rassie could do it, but our current coach i'm unsure about. He just doesnt have the man management or gravitas that Rassie has, although i think he is quite thorough technically so perhaps he can still do well. Rassie will need to be very hands on if we are to have a good chance at the next world cup.
Nienaber is on the same level as Rassie, they think alike because of all the years of coaching together. They still operate together, so it doesn't matter which one has the role of head coach. When Rassie was head coach Nienaber was always apart of the coaching setup. They will always bounce ideas of eachother and will therefore make more educated decisions. After watching "two sides" and having a glimpse at how Nienaber operates you should be able to see how he operates. You can see its a very serious matter and he doesn't fk around.

It's funny because people are always bashing Willie le Roux but now suddenly he is not so bad anymore hey. I have really disliked Elton for years, and felt that he was bad. However after the Worldcup and BIL tour, he proved that he is good enough. Still don't really like the guy but I reckon he will bounce back. Nienaber also feels that way, and he knows much more about rugby then all of us here. The Elton situation will turn around just like the Willie situation did.

Team for the second test...

15 Warrick Gelant, 14 Kurt-Lee Arendse, 13 Jesse Kriel, 12 Andre Esterhuizen, 11 Aphelele Fassi, 10 Handre Pollard (captain), 9 Jaden Hendrikse, 8 Evan Roos, 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6 Marcell Coetzee, 5 Marvin Orie, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Trevor Nyakane, 2 Joseph Dweba, 1 Thomas du Toit

Substitutes: 16 Malcolm Marx, 17 Ntuthuko Mchunu, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 Ruan Nortje, 20 Rynhardt Elstadt, 21 Deon Fourie, 22 Grant Williams, 23 Damian Willemse

Better loose trio... Then Marvin Orie :ROFL::ROFL:... Poor Marx, the best hooker in the world and always on the bench... Dweba is better than Mbonambi though...
Obviously an experimental team, giving a lot of youngsters a chance, but would have moved Mostert into 5, kept Ox at 1 and have Thomas on the bench, started Marx and have Dweba on the bench, leave Wiese at 6 with Marcell on the bench, I would have kept Am at 13.
I think this team will do better than last weeks team though...

WoW, so many changes! Hopes it pays off. I understand the need to expose players to a test environment and for experience but you need continueity as well.

It's a nice team but too many changes at once. This is likely 90% of the midweek team for the November tour to the NH.

Let's hope the Boks win. Would like to keep our unbeaten home record against Wales. They will bombard our back three the whole game and put immense pressure on a completely alien combination with their rush defence, so yeah, I think it could be a difficult day out for these Boks.

If the Boks can click and manage to run a bit they could win well but I don't see it happening against this Welsh side.
