Wales were lucky to escape sanction and the game would have unfolded differently. Still feel the Boks could have won by 25+.
This, they should have received at least 2 yellow cards, and eventually a red. The referee allowed them to get away with murder. That is not acceptable at this level.

Yeah, I wonder how many penalties were given away by Wales in the first 15. Was fully expecting a yellow

I don't mind that the ref didn't go to his pocket during the match but it did raise something I found interesting. He issued Wales a team warning after multiple penalties but when they infringed later again in the match, he said that sufficient time had passed between penalties to not warrant a card. So is there a law or official grace period where a team warning expires or is it at the discretion of the ref? A team warning in theory could last the whole match but I can't see a ref reaching into his pocket after 45 minutes of play and saying 'you guys were on a warning'.

Penalty count was 1 - 8 in our favour early in the match.

I think the team warning should apply indefinitely if said infringement keeps happening in the 22. Fine, penalty only if on halfway line but if every time you threaten to break the defense in the 22 they concede then it's a deliberate and negative ploy.

I remember one moment in the match where I thought for sure Wales would get a yellow card at the next penalty. They then gave away a penalty advantage but the Boks ended up scoring a try. I think Wales got pretty lucky in that instance.

But yeah, some refs definitely "reset" their counters, especially if play leaves the red zone. I don't think there is anything in the laws about it.

New Zealand in unchartered territory for them.

Japan basically admitted some time ago that they won't be World Cup ready. Their current rugby leagues are also being reduced. The public interest in their rugby has dwindled since the pandemic, and many things are still being suspended due to the pandemic. Sad state, but I am sure Jamie Joseph will do his best to prepare.

Such a pity. They had a fantastic base after their 2015 and 2019 heroics to really launch an assault on the established echelons of world rugby.

Yeah and the potential is there for them to slip even further if we blank them 2 - 0. Worrying times for them.
Would be amazing to drop them 2-0. I'm so tired of my fellow Cape Townians who support the ABs.
We have a tough season ahead of us still:
2 x ABs
2 x Aus
2 x Argentina
2 x Ireland
1x Scotland, France, England and shame... Romania

All of those teams could beat us on a bad day, and we could beat any of them on a good day

Their youth is showing promise in the limited Pacific games they have played, but the current leadership of the national squad aren't too keen on giving that youth the opportunity. I am still a bit pissed at their affairs of placing too much emphasis on bolstering their squad with eligible foreigners when they do have the depth. I do understand why they are doing it because of underdeveloped grassroots, but they should give chance where chance is due.

Nonetheless, they did good against a French team who as a barbarian squad smashed the English choice of players.

I only hope that they ascend rather than descend. Too good to be in tier 2, not up to standard for tier 1, odd place to be in, but I can probably say the same about Argentina. Never mind Italy.

On current form (and this is just my opinion), we should put wins on NZ, Aus, the Argies and Romania (shem). Scotland put up a helluva showing against Argentina and is the toughest one to call. Our end of year tour on the other hand is going to be a nightmare.

It's also entirely possible that NZ perform a laager and regroup like Wales, and they will be much better than Wales if they do, and we lose a home series 0 - 2.

I think we will have two nail-biting games where the series will probably be square 1 - 1.

Anyone know where you can buy those old retro springbok jerseys ?

So Squidge just called New Zealand lazy in his analysis of their series loss against Ireland.
