NEWS: Springbok Elton Jantjies’ rugby career has taken another massive hit following his suspension for a banned substance.
The flyhalf has been handed a four-year ban after testing positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol.
The SA Institute of Drug-Free Sport’s (SAIDS) confirmed the four-year ban on their official website.
According to the results’ outcome, the date of violation was June 23, 2023.
Clenbuterol is a fat-burning and asthma medication that also enhances stamina.

In August, the flyhalf admitted that he tested positive for a banned substance, however, denied that he ever ‘deliberately’ took a banned substance.
Consequently, he missed the Rugby Championship and the 2023 World Cup.
Following the confirmation of the ban, a spokesperson for the 33-year-old told @rugby365com that Jantjies will appeal the case.
“Elton would prefer not to engage with the media,” the spokesperson stated.
“His legal team are working on the case /appeal.
“Yes, he is aware of the sanction.”
Meanwhile, Khalid Galant, Chief Executive Officer of the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport, told the website that the four-year ban will stand.
“The ban is four years,” Gelant revealed to @rugby365com.
“The window period for an appeal has lapsed, so the four-year ban stands.”
Jantjies is no stranger to controversy.
The 2019 World Cup winner has faced a series of setbacks – including his arrest for causing damage on an international flight and returning home from the Bok camp after an alleged affair with team dietician Zeenat Simjee.
Nonetheless, the lastest development spells the end of the Jantjies’ incredible rugby career.
Sad news. Sometimes a very polarizing figure. A player with talent but somehow never made the 10-jersey his own at international level. Liked him at the Lions as his play suited the team but not so much for the Boks. Shot himself in the foot a few times but looks like this is the end for him now. Sad though that some good players with obvious talent never reach their full potential due to personal "demons".At 33, Elton's career is pretty much over... From rugby365.com
I think his father's death a few years ago is still lingering with him and that he has not processed it properly.Sad news. Sometimes a very polarizing figure.
