There may come a time when war is the preferable option. We aren't there yet.

Tshwane has no mayor after Murunwa Makwarela disqualified for insolvency

The City of Tshwane has no mayor following the disqualification of Cope councillor Murunwa Makwarela, who was elected mayor last week. City of Tshwane City manager Johann Mettler has written to the Gauteng IEC indicating the vacancy for the mayoral position.

Makwerela is insolvent and according to the Constitution and municipal legislation, he can not be elected mayor. Makwerela was elected with the support of ANC and EFF councillors in Tshwane.

Nope, because he was a Speaker and not a Mayor:
I would be very surprised if I can see the piece of legislation that only bars him from being a Mayor but allows him to be a Speaker, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Interesting times though, I wonder if the DA coalition will find the rogues in time for the new election.

The Speaker doesn't work with anything financial I think, so I can get why he'd get a pass there.

Although the Mayor does... And it wouldn't help much to have an oke with financial problems to be in charge of City finances?

So it would probably boil down to him being sequestrated and the limitations that places on him being able to sign contracts...

But its funny as fsck if you ask me.

Last week, shortly after Cllr Makwarela’s election as the ANC-EFF candidate for mayor of Tshwane, a member of the public informed the Multi-Party Coalition that Cllr Makwarela had been sequestrated by the Gauteng High Court in August 2016.

We were unable to find evidence of a rehabilitation order in the matter, and so we wrote to the city manager and the IEC to ask that Cllr Makwarela be requested to produce evidence of his rehabilitation.
Someone ratted him out to the UF. Maybe it's one of the COPEs?
