The SA Politics Thread Part 3

It also says that he is using a statistics incorrectly.
Did you read it and try to understand?

It goes to an incredible length to point out it might not be 98% per se and it is outdated.

For the man in the street the simple explanation still stands:
While there is some truth to the claim, the statistic being shared is misleading, and, more importantly, out of date.

South Africa’s main opposition party the Democratic Alliance has regularly claimed that it created 98% of all “net new jobs” in South Africa, without always clarifying which quarter of the year it was referring to.

While their calculation for the last quarter of 2022 is mathematically correct, it isn’t helpful in this context. Stats SA recommended using year-on-year changes in employment to compare provinces. These figures show the Western Cape had the second largest increase in employment (14.7%) of any province between the fourth quarter of 2021 and 2022.

More recent data is also available. Between January to March 2022 and January to March 2023, the number of people employed in the Western Cape increased by 15.7%.

Due to the large fluctuations in employment figures from one quarter to the next, it is important to put numbers in context so as to accurately inform public debate.

Some buthurt people there at Africa Check.

JS made a misleading claim. He continued to quote the statistic after newer ones came put.

Don't blame the fact checkers.

Matrichuisen is weak and the DA may do well in spite of him and because of wooing back all the race obsessed voters who couldn't bring themselves to vote for Mmusi.

It is still factual. Fact checkers once gain exposed as agenda driven organisations.

This is a fact whether you like it or not.

Cape Town has created over 167 000 jobs in the last three months since December 2022. Of the 169 000 job gains throughout South Africa, Cape Town makes up 99% of those gains.

I can't wait for the chest pains next year when the DA defies the naysayers' predictions! The meltdown will be epic!

It's misleading as there were provinces which added more than 2 000 jobs, despite the claim of the Western Cape adding 167 000 of 169 000 jobs.

When is the profile of the blacks in the ANC / EFF etc going to published? Would love to see Daily Maverick try come up with a witty bashing of all the stereotypical (to them) black people in these parties. Perhaps they can also tell us why so many of the masses identify with the incompetent thieves and barely-literates who actively ruin their quality of life? I'm sure there's an amusing anecdote that can be likened to black people in there.

Liberal media in SA is a joke. The whiteys at these places are desperately trying so hard to absolve themselves of their guilt and shame at being liberal ANC supporters that their last bastion is just race, race, race. Specifically the old trope that white people don't belong anywhere near the government of SA because they are, well, white.

This is factually incorrect. "Scoring" a ward sounds a lot to me like winning it. Although she increased the EFF vote share, the EFF was not near winning the ward.

Unlike the EFF, which is Pan-African in outlook as opposed to worldly, and has Lulu de Beer of Kempton Park, who scored a ward recently,

Even if either GHL or Pappas becomes DA Federal Leader one day, the same media praising 'em now would also find something about them to complain about

I've always found the obsession with DA and race by SA media to be strange...
Having article after article dissecting the type of whitey each DA candidate is strange (John is an "oke" who "grates the average human ear", Pappas is a "small of stature white gay" who converses with the natives, GHL is "cherub-looking with red-cheeks", Beaumont just "looks like a DA guy (!!)" etc - what does an EFF guy look like?). Who cares about these racist stereotypes, when politicians are elected to run the country? Ostensibly it's to opine about why the DA doesn't win the majority (they have all these annoying white "okes" who grate the supposedly average person's ear).

But really it just comes across as lazy and racist writing trying very hard to be satirical and witty and maybe even get a comparison to David Foster Wallace in literary circles.

Marianne doesn't seem to answer her own question "Why some fish are noticeably bigger in the Democratic Alliance's small, white pond". The opinion just insults the white guys for no reason other than they're white and she doesn't seem to like that very much. I wonder if she's married to a white dude. Or if she tries to pretend she's black when she looks in the mirror everyday?
