The SA Politics Thread Part 3

It was Hill-Lewis' camp who leaked the info about Madikizela lying about his degree. Madikizela wanted to contest GHL for the CPT Mayorship and had he done so, it would have been quite close as Madikizela was former WC DA Leader and also has a big following in WC.

They were opportunists because they knew of it for a long time, kept quiet about it while he was DA WC leader but suddenly leaked it when he tried to challenge GHL.

I still don't believe anyone can win anything in the DA if they don't have Zille's blessing. Also remember that your following foes not matter, it's the voting delegates who does.

Well, yes. Ntuli should have been promoted to parliament but she was relegated to DA KZN ranks because of a fight she had with Zille while she was DA Youth Leader. Most of the other DA Youth Leaders who stay in their lane go to parliament.

Actually, Mphiti is still with DA but out of the spotlight now. He was the one who was slammed after the Reineke incident.

Btw, it looks like Winde tried to cadre deploy Madikizela to a job in Western Cape which would have seen him earn R2 million and would have done so had opposition parties not called out the DA before they succeeded.

This is the reason we need strong opposition in the Western Cape.

Madikizela returned to the spotlight again following his resignation when Premier Alan Winde attempted to appoint him as his advisor. The job would have seen Madikizela getting close to R2-million per annum and this caused an uproar as opposition parties argued that he did not possess the necessary qualifications for a Level IV compensation.

At least he is loyal and tried to lift a fellow comrade up when he was down. He knows the DA did him dirty and felt sorry for him.

Don't agree with this actually. It may bring superficial unity for a short space of time but that is about it.
And I don't agree with you either. It shows that we can stand together as a country.

It shows that a united SA isn't impossible.
A significant percentage of SA was also backing the ABs in the 95 RWC final which Invictus ignored but I get that they were trying to make money from the movie.
Lmao shem. An Invictus reference is your argument?

Seems cool. I think he writes for ST as well.

So at least, the Moonshot Convention has a credible independent chair.

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of the convention. Especially how the presidential candidacy pans out, since John recently essentially said it's not a must that he becomes President (maybe we'll see a compromise candidate?).

In Groenewald's interview with the Sunday Times last week, he suggested the IFP leader, so let's see what happens.

Hlabisa has got his own problems, if the Moonshot wants the IFP to expel him fast fast they should nominate him as leader.

There is really no law that says the leader of the party should be the leader in government, so why not ignore all of them and get someone who is not a leader? Freedom Front has the Mulders in their variety, the DA has Tony Leon, they have Alan Winde, or Solly Msimanga, ActionSA has Athol Trollip.

Well, we didnt really stand together after the 95 RWC, a lot of people supported All Blacks. A lot of township clubs to this day are named after NZ teams for historical reasons.

Also, I doubt okes in Vrystaat or Brakenfell cared much when Bafana won the 96 Afcon.

The whole unity thing sports supposedly brings is also exaggerated by corporates who make money by promoting such messages.

Tony Leon is out of politics actually. Helen Zille has said their relationship was "complicated" because she felt he was captured by the National Party members the DA inherited so he was also a victim of her but opted to take early retirement from politics.

Ubaba rewarded him with ambassadorship to Argentina shortly after.

Maybe formally out of politics but he's still around on the edges and likely provides informal advice to the likes of Hill-Lewis and Winde. I actually think he lives in my ward in Cape Town as he hosted a wine & cheese discussion after the 2021 local elections which I attended, although it was kind of boring because as a self-confessed political nerd, I knew about all the trends he spoke about.

Fair enough but then again it was only a year after the first elections.
