Mpumalanga is likely to be a massive disappointment for the ANC. The party was targeting an increase of support up to 80% in the 2024 election from its 71% in 2019.

However, projections indicate that the party has shed a staggering 19 percentage points in the province.

Here are the latest projections:

ANC 52% (-19%)

DA 12% (+2)

EFF 13% (-)

MK 17% (-)

FF+ 2 (-)

Some trendlines from News24 elections analyst Dawie Scholtz:

The ANC has bled support to MK in southern Mpumalanga, close to KwaZulu Natal. MK managed to snatch some 30% of voters away from the ANC in this area. Mpumalanga was one of three provinces the ANC was relying on to shore up its national total.

Former Mpumalanga premier and ANC chairman David Mabuza was drawn out onto the campaign trail in order to bolster party support in the run up to the election. The ANC in the province would have to do some deep introspection, should the projection hold - it is another province the ANC is on its way to losing in the next election.

These aren't ward elections. So I'm not sure why you guys put some much emphasis on the wards. It's cool for stats, but that's it.

2026 is gonna be lit though.

Because that's how they counted up on the News24 map and it's cool to look at trends at a granular level.

Which may good or bad. In this country as people become disillusioned they gravitate toward populist parties. It's actually not even limited to SA, the US, Argentina, some of Europe etc are going the same way.

Coalitions are better than single party dominance for 3 decades. I'll take it as a major win for SA.

I honestly just don't want to see ANC + EFF = > 50%. And it's teasing that all the time so far.

Is that a valid remark/perspective?
