The ideal for me is a minority ANC government, but at 42% it becomes risky. If the DA agrees to it though, they can force it through.

ANC, MK and EFF together is roughly the same as ANC in it's early years as MK and EFF are splinters.

ANC knows they are set to lose votes in places like KZN, instead of those votes going to opposition parties, get a party like MK spun up - guaranteed to get a huge chunk of the votes, and then have a guaranteed coalition partner that you control?

If there wasn't high levels of animosity between the 2 camps, it would be a good tinfoil hat theory... Much like the PA story. But Jacob is still bitter that Cyril "outplayed" him, and he wants his power back because he has unfinished business.
The MK thing isn't about getting the ANC back into power, its about Jacob getting access to the trough again. There just happen to be many many idiots out there who fall for the charade.

No. The person needs a majority vote in parliament, with a run-off if there is no majority candidate.
The secret sauce is really who can stand against Cyril and get half the seats in parliament to vote for them. You'd need someone innocious enough like Miamane to make the final round(s).
