I'm going to go upstream on this one, I think you do need a deputy minister, to preside over a department is a huge task, nevermind the ceremonial tasks, a minister needs as much consultation as possible in reaching to particular decisions that would have a great impact on society. Cost is almost nothing if their roles are well played.

Think of them as consultants, in a perfect world Deputy Ministers would be the one cutting ribbons and hearing what people want relaying that to the Minister, wherein the Minister reconciles that with the expert opinions from the executive, literature. A deputy will attend to Parliament for all minor session e.g Q&A, receiving political party guides.

It's taxing work to deal with all the bureaucracy, a DM is a good idea, leaving the Minister to deal with the technocratic elements of running the Department.

If the majority of US Congress doesn't even read a bill before voting for it, because they have "no time" , how much time do you think a Minister has between Parliament, Party work, lending a ear to the everyday man, Department work?

i dont know what coalition i would prefer. i would prefer change and change does not come easy. "the best case scenario" seems like the easy path.

There's like 3 possibilities, it isn't endless. So maybe take 5 min and consider what is realistic before commenting. Change just for the sake of it isn't really on the table.

it will also show if the people were serious about getting rid of the crap we have to deal with every day because their incompetence.

voter turnout was 59%. people who thought there was no chance might have a change of heart and go make a mark, or some could feel sorry for the anc or afraid and strengthen their position again. some might even change their choice. but at least it can be said a real shot was taken.

They just voted MK. The people who caused the crap.

Reward for sticking it to the DA, if Ramaposer wanted to be more inclusive there were other parties with more than 2 seat GOOD.

It's an age old problem that some thought having reliable internet access to these people would allow them to educate themselves as well. It appears not.
 
Whilst everyone is focused on national government; I'm wondering how KZN and GP will shape up. I suspect if ANC/DA do a deal at national, they'll likely do the same for GP. KZN is a little more complex - I believe MK has treated if they're "pushed out" of KZN there will be trouble.

The IFP there has a unique problem, while nationally it is not a problem, their supporters in KZN are a different bunch, working with the other parties to close the door on the MK will be seen as betrayal to Zulu unity and cost them votes. Which they can hardly afford, it is worth noting that they performed dismally for all the hype and funding.

So I have a feeling they are busy looking for reasons to justify their decision to work with MK, Hlabisa was already falling over himself yesterday when interviewed.
