DA federal council endorses engagements to form a government
The DA's federal council has unanimously endorsed a resolution affirming the mandate of its leader, John Steenhuisen, and the party'snegotiating team to continue with the process toward the formation ofgovernments at national and provincial levels with hung legislatures, in orderto safeguard the Constitution, ensure stability, and generate economic growth.
While the party has a negotiating team composed of HelenZille, Ivan Meyer, Alan Winde, Siviwe Gwarube, Tony Leon and Ryan Coetzee interms of its constitution, the party's federal executive will make the finaldecision relating to coalitions and the formation of governments at nationaland provincial levels.
"The DA continues to engage with other parties with theaim of forming stable governments that can ensure a better tomorrow for all ofSouth Africa's people," said DA spokesperson Solly Malatsi in a statement.

It's all political, remember the DA is still planning for the future, so they don't want to appear greedy, an external person removes the ministry from the ANC, there is everything to gain and nothing to lose for them.

Of course not saying I support the idea, just explaining the rationale.

So to we get to hear about the coalitions prior to Friday's first sitting, or does it happen in parliament on the day ?

This especially since we aren't going to get the necessary budget cuts anyway.

I expect negotiations will continue after Friday, all that is required is the president and speaker to be elected. There is time afterwards for the president to elect his cabinet and form a government. But whoever is elected to those positions on Friday will give a good indication of who has agreed to work together.

Got to agree with rietroll here, there's nothing value adding in that proposal. There's not finance or treasury problem. That department is one of the best run with very competent people on the ground. Sure, don't appoint Shivambu but the ANC have mostly done a good job keeping the department free of their usual incompetence.

Oh I personally don't think it's really here or there... Just if trolltrot thinks something is a bad idea, it's usually a bloody good one
