Yeah I'm not sure the simplistic evaluation that its because of NHI really holds true... it might be part of the factor but I don't think its the primary driver for the dip, but it would be interesting to see.
If those results is what we end up with; not sure how a government is formed. ANC either had to choose MK or DA. As the EFF won't have enough to help them over the line.
Can't see the ANC happily choosing MK at this point given the animosity between the 2, and the EFF on a national level is questionable as well.
Then it would have to be the DA. Unless a minority government is formed.
Even if ANC gets 40%, it will form government by cobbling EFF+MK+Whatever. They will not relinquish power that easily. Then it would have to be the DA. Unless a minority government is formed.
MK and EFF would want Ramaphosa gone as a pre-condition to any deal, and they would want cabinet positions. Then it would have to be the DA. Unless a minority government is formed.

I really don't see them getting below 45% though. Or DA getting above 35%

But what TB says is true - there is certainly no love loss between the Ramaphosa and Zuma factions. They really do hate each other.
45% is the new 70%.
I think we are seeing blowback from the NHI:

I think we are seeing the ANC lose support of middle class public sector workers, which basically was their only base in the middle class. Think about it, is a poor person finally get into the middle class via a teaching position, or as a local government admin person, and think: "finally, I don't have to worry about public hospitals", and the ANC goes: "nah fam, you are rich and privileged and you should go back to the state hospitals".
Of course they would, those are ultimately givens.
It all depends on just how much "power" Cyril still has inside the NEC when that happens, and also how much ANC members stand to lose out when the EFF and MK inevitably want the lucrative and powerful cabinet positions.
