Agreed. Apparently he's retiring after the elections, but either COPE will disband or be absorbed...

It has the benefit of scaring the middle class away from the ANC but attracting users of the terrible public system into the arms of the ANC. The ANC's strategy this election seems to be firmly bet on those at the bottom. They know that it's hard to win over the clever types when they've been failing for more than 3 decades. Even some of the poor aren't buying it.

How can they be failing when the ANC keeps delivering services the public can touch and feel?

Since this is a daily moving average over a few weeks (IIRC), then this dramatic swing shows that the last few days have been heavily against the ANC and in the DA’s favor. It’s not so easy to affect a moving average like this unless the new data has a big structural change.

Also remember that Gareth more than tripled the daily sample size a couple of days ago. Presumably a few days before the big jump.
