Talking about qualifications, MEC Winde has not retained the former MEC of health in the Western Cape who had qualifications and experience in the health industry, he replaced her with someone who has no background in Health and no qualifications related to health, so does qualifications really matter or is it just something that's brought up when it's convenient?

They do matter in my personal opinion so I'd love to know Windes rationale for replacing a person with qualifications for one without.

With the right justification it can be a good idea, but that bar would be set very high.

No reasons are given, you just have to trust the Premier on the appointment, I just mentioned it because all those pro qualifications when it comes to Cyril's cabinet seem to gloss over Winde's cabinet appointments, which makes the whole thing just good, old fashioned hypocrisy.

Just from my side, I honestly didn't really pay attention to Winde's cabinet appointments because they don't impact me... and also because I largely think Provincial parliament is a waste of time (at least from KZN's side where they do sweet fsck all anyway) whereas Cyrils cabinet does unfortunately impact me.

Its not really, you mail the DA, or ask your DA representative in the area to try and find out.

Granted since you're in KZN I would expect you not to get an answer or to just largely get ignored. If you were in WC there is a higher chance you'll get an answer

I agree with everything you say except the part about qualifications not being important, a combination of qualifications and everything you have mentioned is a good mix for someone in an oversight role.

Can we just agree that this is all political? People are simply appointed in those positions for political expediency, the fact that they might happen to have qualifications is just that. It does happen that when the political masters are in a corner they might just ignore politics and appoint someone who is qualified and competent, but that is more of an exception than the norm.

Its no question that its all political and that is in many ways the problem.

The oversight role should have an element of politics in it without a doubt (even though I do generally disagree with it) but there seems to be very little (if any) thought on the person actually being suitable or capable in the portfolio... and this criticism crosses all political boundaries.

I want a capable state where the people who are parachuted into power have at least SOME clue about the sector they're being parachuted into.

I want a capable state where the people who are parachuted into power have at least SOME clue about the sector they're being parachuted into.

We also need to agree that is impossible with our current electoral system. Politicians are simply too compromised to be trusted with that responsibility.
