He was elected president to make this shít work. If he fails he has to go. That's exactly what a motion of no confidence is for.

I'm actually shocked that people still have confidence in Cyril to do anything, but maby now this time the stakes are high enough.
No, he was elected President because the majority of people in Parliament thought he was the best candidate amongst those who were nominated. At the right time he is going to elect an executive as it is his responsibility as President, which people might be happy or not happy about, the rest is party politics.

If they are unhappy about his executive they can either try to sort that out at the level of party politics in the GNU or do what they did the previous time and call for a motion of no confidence on the cabinet, it probably won't succeed but it would articulate their position better.

Cmon man who are you trying to BS. He was elected because of the GNU and his job is to make that work.

If Cyril and the ANC betray the GNU a motion of no confidence will succeed.

Believe it or not, The DA supported his election because they have confidence in him as President, that's why the DA has never initiated or supported any motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa ever since he was elected in 2017.

Agreeing or disagreeing in the GNU does not change the fact that the DA has confidence in Cyril as a President, do you think they would have supported Mashatile just for the GNU?

No, you are dead wrong. He's just better than any alternative out there.

Which just goes to show what idiots they are. If they don't know the man by now...

I know it's painful to admit, but Ramaphosa is loved across political barriers, there is truly no shame or scandal in that, he is a loveable person. Two ANC people the DA loves and would have them in their party any day, Cyril Ramaphosa and Panyaza Lesufi.

Here is what President Moonshot had to say about Cyril.

I vaguely recall everyone predicting Panyaza's downfall and how they have marked your posts to remind you post-event.

Did that happen ?
Wasn't it the same as DA falling below 20% nationally and losing WC? Asking for braai companions.

We know you also get warm and fuzzy when he calls you a fellow South African and then ends his speech by asking the Good Lord to bless South Africa.

But of course, we know you think it makes you a softie so you pretend like you don't care.

Why are the DA demanding a DP role? It's a meaningless role, the only benefit there is the perks. And what's with all the alleged DA leaks? Are they doing it, they don't seem to have dismissed any of it for fakes?
It's a decoy. They know ANC won't give it up, so they're trying to setup getting what they actually want as a reasonable "alternative" (Minister in Pres with government business powers and DM for Finance).

Probing attack, plain and simple.

there's a big difference between having confidence in CR as president vs being pragmatic and realising a couple of things:
- the DA won't get to put someone better in the role
- the ANC (perhaps with MK or EFF help) could definitely put someone much worse in the role

that's not really confidence as much as it is pragmatism, to be fair though that formula has to change a LOT before it becomes pragmatic to vote against him in a motion of no confidence

Personal opinion on this, I think the "demand" of a DP role is an overstretch, so that the ANC try negotiate down from there and the DA get closer to what they actually want.

Also, as an aside, we see the DP as a "meaningless position" largely due to it being held by an ANC person who is subservient to the President anyway... if that position was filled by someone else we might see a very different type of DP role emerge.
Viva.

If anyone buys into that schit... I have several bridges to sell

Actually no, the DA didn't put him in power, check the number of votes he got, remove the DA's votes and see how many votes are left, compared to that of the person he was competing with, let's not make things up.
DA and IFP votes got him over the 200 + 1 line.

The same in GP and KZN. Without DA (especially in GP) and IFP (especially in KZN), ANC would've been either stuck as a minority gov or completely out of power.

I would not say they have confidence in him, more of a case that whoeve came after him would likely be worse. Especially if said person came out of the Zuma/RET faction that is still embedded within the ANC.

I also believe a core agreement to this GNU and the DA's participation therein is their commitment to ''protecting'' Ramaphosa, as everybody knows the MK and EFF will make a run at him if given the opportunity. I'd also imagine that Ramaphosa and his supporters within the party are aware that the Zuma-faction still lives on within the ANC, so the ANC itself cannot even guarantee Ramaphosa's safety if the MK/EFF can turn those still within the ANC.

Obviously they would have loved for John to be the President, but that's not possible since the ANC has power for that position, so they have confidence in the ANC's nominated candidate in that position, that's why they voted for him.

I do realise it sounds bad politically, but that's just how it is, if the ANC nominated someone like Mashatile they would probably not vote for him.
