Disagree. If I speak English to a French person for a few hours I will adopt a very bad French accent. Not because I'm trying to be funny. It's completely subconscious and is a natural adaptation to enhance communication and fit in.
There's a difference between language convergence and stereotyping or mockery. That's why I asked if he does switch accents.

When I was 19 I went over to the UK on one of those working holidays. Almost immediately I found myself mimicking the accent of the people I was talking to before I actively became aware of it and told myself to not do it.

Natural human psychology that. The need to fit in with the Group.

There's a difference between someone subconsciously mimicking an accent and someone actively mocking it or stereotyping and changing his.
