ANC government officials in KZN fear losing their jobs after fiercely contested May 29 polls
This time around, it is not yet clear whether the ANC will retain power on its own or with a coalition; whether the IFP and its coalition with the DA and other parties will turn the tables; or whether the MK party will make a big impact.www.dailymaverick.co.za

Voter turnout was way lower this time. Every party would have gotten way less, even if the percentages didn't change at all. The IEC has much to answer for. The IEC really have not had great performance this decade. 2021 was also crap.View attachment 1719135
Is this correct?
They'll form a coalition. But my guess is they'll try and bring in the IFP, Rise, Bosa etc. to try and dissolve the DA influence a bit and maintain some form of credibility to their electorate...
There's this possibility too...
ANC must forget about holding onto some sort of power in KZN, give it to MK and resign themselves to opposition and focus on building their party from scratch, it's clear that the support they thought they had all along was Zuma's support.
Start like they are a new party, renew their structures, audit their membership, fine tune the recruitment processes and build from there.
I see it's 3.4 million now.
Lower voter turnout.
No, they are fine at national level and elsewhere, they have the biggest share of the vote nationally and are leading in all provinces except KZN and WC, I singled out KZN particularly because they got 17%, wanting to fight for power makes them what the EFF was in the municipalities.Agreed. Do you think they should do this at national level?

In 2019, Independent Media titles and IOL reported on information from ANC NEC members of Cyril Ramaphosa’s plan to ‘kill the ANC ‘ and move it toward a coalition with the Democratic Alliance.
a hard lesson learnt.
time for introspection, a good clean up, renew, refocus.
Probably won't happen but imagine GNU between ANC, DA, EFF, and IFP... Chaos abound...
Imagine this... If it were to happen, it would be a total miracle if it works for at least 3 months...
Well, going by a quick look at provincial results, the ANC will lose their majority in NCOP. @Garson007
The figures are not up to date (source is a report from a time when 40% seemed crazy, i.e. 16h ago ;D ), but I thought this graph really highlights something

If Jacob Zuma will become known for one thing only, the overarching theme, then it could very well be harm to the ANC.
I can actually imagine that if the country kept growing... If the average quality of life had kept increasing for the last 20 years... If our international standing kept rising... As it did, right up to the point Zuma rose to power...
I might very well have voted ANC on the 29th.
And this country might have had a GDP similar to the Netherlands or Saudi-Arabia. Not even joking - I believe our country's GDP is half of what it should be, but for Zuma's BS. One could always split it down the middle and say our GDP should be 50% more. That would still mean our GDP would have been equal to Sweden's.
Please no.. I don’t think anyone has energy for this.
There's this possibility too...
What do you think would happen if we voted again?
I can totally see that ripping apart happening in KZN, not so much elsewhere, that is why I say the ANC shoukd treat itself as a newly formed party in KZN, there is very little to salvage.

Look at it this way, suppose you were angry at the DA for some reason in Gauteng as some people are complaining about councillors and decide to vote for Rise ActionSA, RiSE, Bosa etc, instead of having any of them being represented hoping they will hold the DA accountable you end up with MK running riot in the province.I wondered this too and I’d be surprised if the result was any different? Why would people change their vote within a short period of time?
Same hereI’d be very surprised if the DA work with the EFF in any meaningful way.
Yes, upper house of Parliament.Remind me again what NCOP is again? National council of provinces? What’s the function?
The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is one of the two Houses of Parliament. The NCOP is constitutionally mandated to ensure that provincial interests are taken into account in the national sphere of government. This is done through participation in the national legislative process and by providing a national forum for consideration of issues affecting provinces.
Seconded.SA was a prosperous place between ‘94 and ‘04 - the average persons life generally got better and things were on the up. Hence the almost 70% in support. Zuma single destroyed all the hard work done in those years.
That would entail possibly going into full coalition GNU mode with ANC.Help me understand here. Why is the speaker position that important? I’d prefer DA have police, home affairs and transport.
Funnily enough, the DA insider in the FT article Brit posted, basically stated two options DA is looking at.NA Presiding Officers - Parliament of South Africa

“The potential models are still in deep debate but seem to be settling around two major options,” said one DA insider who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak about internal party discussions. A supply and confidence model “where the DA would extract certain policy concessions, and take control of the legislature” was one possibility, he said. Alternatively the DA could consider an “all-in model of a government of national unity” with the ANC and the IFP in order “to avoid an EFF/MK/ANC national coalition which we know would be devastating for South Africa”.
EFF leader Julius Malema has announced that the red berets accept the results of the 2024 general elections. Malema expressed satisfaction that they had managed to push the ANC out of total power in the country.
As political horsetrading begins the uMkhontoweSizwe Party (MK) has moved swiftly to warn parties against trying to stage a coup against the MK majority in KwaZulu-Natal.
"It's clear we are the majority party in that province even as we dispute the election results. Our calculations show we are over the 50% threshold. We have raised several objections and want a recount. But that aside, if there are any coalition talks aimed at keeping us out of power in KZN that's not going to happen,” MK's head of elections, Muzi Ntshingila said.
“Those parties must know we are not going to accept any attempt at silencing us. The people have spoken, loud and clear and we will fulfil that mandate," Ntshingila added.
Tbh the potential GNU parties (ANC, IFP, DA) should just back off and let MK work with EFF to govern KZN. Let the people of KZN experience the good governance of MK/EFF.
