I expect that the Mayor will go next if the wolves can install their own speaker. No doubt the likes of the EFF et al will say they'd vote for a ruling coalition candidate if he or she is to their tastes.

Depends if ACDP, etc who had the rogue councillors can bring them in line. If so, Mpho and JHB should be safe. Otherwise...

P.S Seems like ASA and others want the COPE councillor to become speaker, DA will have to play ball.

They'll probably need to give up the speaker position yes. But giving it to a mercenary may not be wisest. She is alleged to be one of those paid off and as your article indicates, she is basically available to the highest bidder and who can bid higher than the ANC.

That's a big problem, yeah. Although the UF in JHB can just decide to cut ties with the COPE councillor there as an extreme resort (The UF will lose one seat, but maintain their majority of 137 seats).

They should have cut ties with COPE right after their punch up.
 
I am hoping JHB does not go back to ANC. Just when things are starting to come right and the place is getting cleaned up.

I hope the DA have a bigger share of the votes, next time round so this situation doesn't happen again. I feel like 2016 is about to revisit us.

It is obviously not in the ANC's interest that the coalition do a good job. And the ANC in Gauteng have an objective to get the city back. They don't care about service they just can't stomach permanently losing the city because someone else is doing a better job and they must know they can't do better because they are built for nonperformance.

Yeah, 100%. I just hope that in the end, the residents don't give the ANC enough power, next time round that they can't pull **** like this.

This. Many analysts have said that the ANC will try to discredit coalitions as much as possible so that people won't go to the "new alternative"/UF. We've seen the ANC doing this in recent months.

Yup, they still can't take that they couldn't get their majority back nor get a "founding" (first after the elections) coalition either. To them is about getting back to JHB's resources (the trough) so they can renew their "time to eat" subscriptions. Also, they can't take it that the UF is getting **** done, so when something happens, they just blame the UF for it as if they were the ones who governed the city for the previous two decades...

Keep in mind since losing the metros of TSH, EKH, NMB and JHB in 2016, the ANC never got their majority back in those areas. Last year, they lost Durban... So ANC will be desperate to hold on to them, using whatever means necessary...

The ANC are working very very hard to make sure they never get a majority in DBN again as well...
