Yeah, I doubt COPE will be in Parliament after 2024. And it would take a miracle to get COPE to actually win more seats.

Lekota should rather cut his losses and disband COPE. And either retire from politics or join another party (option one is preferable, really).

It could still be salvaged, they need to withdraw all the suspensions against each other and show that they are really committed to renewing the party, younger people being at the forefront, even if it eans getting someone from outside to be their spokesperson, obviously not the type who were punching each other, just be relevant and cut out the infighting.

I honestly don't believe COPE would be incapable of getting votes with the number of very useless parties getting votes, they should be able to get some votes.

I doubt there's any sort of commitment to renewal. It's all about money now. The younger ones obviously want a chance at the high table while the oldies want to hold on and keep control of the funding and the salaries that come with parliament and council rep.

They would really need to accept that Lekota is still the leader until the elective conference, no matter what anyone thinks of him it's very clear that it's not going to be easy to get rid of him, if they cannot find each other there then they are really going nowhere.

In theory, if you look at what they stand for, they seem to be another good option in the opposition. But add in the perpetual infighting, the "time to eat" behaviour, the blikseming on national TV, etc, and the appeal plummets hard and fast.

So yeah, they might get votes, but will the votes they get be able to keep them in Parliament?

The problem is from what I've heard of, if the City tries to prevent that, then the City gets shat on for being anti-homeless?

But I agree with GHL. I remember seeing the shittons of tents in the CBD when we were there a few months ago.

Well the heavy handedness approach that the City persuade previously, harsh enforcement of by laws... +Dumping people on the outskirts of Cape Town did not sit well with most ....There needs to be a balance. Tents cities popping up and or ballooning I would say is a direct consequence of the pandemic - you need lasting solutions , that needs to flow from a balanced approach.

Not sure what help their "vow" is going to be when the ANC and their lackeys bring motions against the rest of the city government. The ANC have vowed to win the city back and I doubt they stop at the speaker. It is curious that they are doing it in Joburg rather than Tshwane. Isn't numbers or are they just afraid the coalition might do a good enough job to completely remove them at the next election?
