It won't make any difference, they did not have a Speaker ever since DA Gama was removed, Joburg is still standing and life goes on.

I had no beef with Da Gama but now that he is gone you are not going to see any tears from me. I do like the new speaker as I have said on a number of occasions, good to luck to her and hope her new role assists COPE to reinvent themselves to be competitive again, it's nice to see that they still have people of her caliber in their ranks.

No, I won't be happy, I also have no problem with the good Dr, but that's a life of a politician, she will have to be a big girl about it, I am sure she knew that she was living on borrowed times. It's politics, it happens, if you don't like it you win an election outright with a good majority.

One thing I will be happy about is to see Zille's DA and the supporters miserable, now that I won't be able to lie about, it's going to please me greatly.

I don't know what you think right wing is. Having a safe environment and free market sounds pretty sensible. Who cares anyway, there won't be a country left pretty soon.

Come on, don't be so despondent, our democracy is maturing, our politics is getting very interesting and unpredictable, new politics are parties making an impact and upsetting the status quo.

The only problem here is that the DA and its supporters thought they would be the automatic shoo in when the ANC is displaced, but the reality is hitting them hard. Sadly Mashaba is being a massive disappointment because he had such a great opportunity, but hopefully he continues to grow at the expense of both the DA and the ANC, to remove the dominance of the ANC and the smug off the DA.

The DA get the job done with clean governance. I'll be the first one to vote for somebody else when they stop doing that.

Perhaps and it's just a thought, they should try to win an election so that they can do what they do best? What I don't understand is that you supporters seem to be very happy with being a 20% party but you also want to govern?

Simple fact is you need to make peace with the fact that as it is now the DA is going nowhere, what the coalitions did was just mask the fact that the party performed very poor but all that was simply ignored because they were suddenly governing so many metros, and there is one stumbling block for all that, it's called Zille.

Convincing yourself that things are going well even when it's clear they are not is called denial.

They went into the coalition with a bullish attitude and now all that is coming back to bite them, there was nothing stopping them from really being humble, getting the trust of their coalition partners instead of the "I am the majority party" attitude they took, for an example what was the reason for taking both the Mayor and speaker positions in the first place?

Who said I'm happy with being a 20% party. I can't help it that most of south africa vote along tribal and racial lines, and that they can't stomach having a white president.
I don't know what Zille actually did for you to hate her so much. The other coalition parties are the ones that need to be humble imho, if the DA in the coalition has more seats than all the other parties combined. It's not called the Democratic Alliance for nothing.

Okay, let's wait and see how that works out, I guess there is nothing to lose so it shouldn't be a big deal to go back to the opposition benches.
 
Listened to the new speaker on the radio a few weeks back, actually thought I was listening to an EFF member, interview was peppered with "whiteness, transformation, etc" not that she thought one of the other parties should stand. Had the sense that she had been speaking to other non coalition parties and crunched numbers. The interviewer pointed out that the make up of council management was mixed but she was having nothing of it, claiming that they had a "whiteness" way of thinking. Jhb is poorer today.

Eish, DA, "right wing"? One thing I see about the commentary (and obviously most of SA's voters) is many hate the DA just because; white, right wing, blunt speaking Zille, something. Regardless of DA performance, always nitpicked, they seem to prefer the ANC's loving embrace that has done SA "proud" for nearly 30 years. Best of luck.
