Perhaps you did not follow the developments but just after DA Gama was voted out Mashaba suddenly had a problem with him and was warning the DA not to bring him back for election.

It's simple really, Mashaba is in a corner, he has professed never to work with the ANC, the DA that he is working with are seemingly not giving him what he thinks he deserves so he is always fighting with them, as you can see now, smallernyana problem is that the DA knows he is going nowhere despite his tantrums.
Yup, they didn't mind the speaker, but when the rogue incident happened, then all of a sudden, the Speaker had to come from another party, even tho it's in the agreement that the DA has the Speaker... If they had opposition why not raise it during negotiations?

At this point, Mashaba and ASA are just out to "own the DA" to use a popular phrase. And when the DA doesn't bend to their will, then they're "arrogant"...

In short, I agree with you.

The only problem here is that the DA and its supporters thought they would be the automatic shoo in when the ANC is displaced, but the reality is hitting them hard.
They are most likely going to be the anchor tenant in most provinces and on national scale.

I'm sure all the ASA voters wished they had just voted DA by now.

I guess there is nothing to lose so it shouldn't be a big deal to go back to the opposition benches.
Yeah, nothing to lose. Not like the ANC/EFF coalition will just destroy JHB beyond comprehension. But hey, at least we showed the UF who's boss, right?

Perhaps and it's just a thought, they should try to win an election so that they can do what they do best? What I don't understand is that you supporters seem to be very happy with being a 20% party but you also want to govern?
Is it not possible? And the DA is actually moving back up from 20%.
Simple fact is you need to make peace with the fact that as it is now the DA is going nowhere
I disagree. And how are you assured it's a fact?
what the coalitions did was just mask the fact that the party performed very poor but all that was simply ignored because they were suddenly governing so many metros
Yeah, I think it was the last fallout from 2019 that finally came to the front.
They went into the coalition with a bullish attitude and now all that is coming back to bite them, there was nothing stopping them from really being humble, getting the trust of their coalition partners instead of the "I am the majority party" attitude they took
Should they rather have bent over backwards and have the other parties walk all over them? I agree that they could've handled some things better.

They won't stop at the speaker.
Yeah, it's clear PA will now coalesce with ANC nationally. Not surprising since they already did it in WC at the start of the year... In both instances, they've used the "they insult us" excuse to cop out of the UF coalitions.

I assume ANC offered them lucrative positions.

So the UF has lost JHB. At least it lasted 9 months...

Eish, DA, "right wing"?
Yeah, I always find that **** funny. If they're right-wing, then ASA, IFP and VF+ are right-wing extremists and EFF just center-left, lmao.
One thing I see about the commentary is many hate the DA
It's because the DA isn't a carbon copy of ANC or some dumb derivative of ANC. And of course, that's not acceptable to the commentariat.
Regardless of DA performance, always nitpicked, they seem to prefer the ANC's loving embrace that has done SA "proud" for nearly 30 years. Best of luck.
The media and commentariat also play a role. They condemn the ANC, but they still don't support the opposition (not just DA), and they lace it with reasonable explanations, like "We have no opposition", etc. And whatever the DA does, they get shot out of the sky.

Like with the Devolution Group thing, now it's, "CI SECESSION IMMINENT, DA BRING BACK APARTHEID, DA WANTS TO SECEDE, DA BAD".

Hilariously enough, EKH and Mogale City are going to last longer (UF minority governments)...

Cosatu, a key ally of the ANC, will, for the first time in its 37 years of existence, hold a special national consultative conference in 2023 to debate and take a decision on its relationship with the governing party.

The relationship between the ANC and its left-leaning allies in the tripartite alliance seems to have soured, culminating in the booing of party president Cyril Ramaphosa at a Workers’ Day rally in Rustenburg in May and its chair, Gwede Mantashe, at the Cosatu conference on Monday.

If carried through, the threat to dump the alliance could be disastrous for the ANC, which lost the metros of Tshwane, Joburg and Ekurhuleni in the 2021 municipal elections when its electoral support dipped below 50% for the first time.
On Tuesday, Cosatu’s biggest unions — the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union, Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union, SA Municipal Workers’ Union and National Union of Mineworkers — called on the conference to take an immediate decision to dump the ANC and support the SA Communist Party (SACP) in 2024.

The SACP has been threatening to go it alone at elections for a long time but it has failed to follow through on this threat.

SACP general secretary Solly Mapaila told delegates to the congress that the alliance partners were fed up dealing with “two different ANCs”.

He said the one they dealt with at alliance meetings was very different from the one they dealt with in government.

The four unions jointly account for more than 700,000 of Cosatu’s membership of about 1.6-million.
If COSATU leaves, SACP will most likely go with them. Interesting times.

But what I wonder is who will SACP work with then? Will they take a chance on the UF or will they just work with ANC again?
