New vehicle sales take upturn in October in SA

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) welcomed the uptick in new vehicle sales during October 2019. The car rental industry continued to provide substantial support to new vehicle sales volumes during the month.

Reflecting on the new vehicle sales statistics for the month of October 2019, Naamsa confirmed that aggregate domestic new vehicle sales, at 51 978 units, reflected a marginal increase of 122 units or 0.2% from the 51 856 vehicles sold in October last year.

Suzuki South Africa breaks its monthly sales record … yet again!

Suzuki Auto South Africa has recorded its best-ever month in terms of sales in October 2019, registering 1 629 vehicles.

That’s 48 units more than its previous best effort, which came as recently as August 2019.

Some 1 581 units came in the passenger vehicle segment, with the Swift leading the way with 678 registrations. The brand also enjoyed useful contributions from the Ertiga (166), Jimny (143), Ignis (141), Vitara (122) and Celerio (112).

Volkswagen SA smashes monthly production record at Uitenhage plant!

Volkswagen Group South Africa says it has registered a new record for the number of vehicles produced at its Uitenhage plant in a single month.

In October 2019, the factory churned out 16 453 units (comprising Polo and Polo Vivo hatchbacks), besting the previous record of 15 131 units set a decade ago (in October 2009).

By the end of October 2019, the plant’s year-to-date production figure stood at 140 482 units, with some 92 029 of those manufactured for export.

“It is proof of VW SA’s commitment to excellence that the plant was able to achieve this milestone,” said Thomas Schaefer, Volkswagen Group South Africa chairman and managing director.

Suzuki SA breaks its own record with a swift month of sales

Suzuki has gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years, becoming a popular choice for motorists looking for affordability and reliability - and good-looking cars.

Just like the Hilux is doing for Toyota, and the Polo for VW, the Swift is the one leading the charge for the Japanese, breaking its own record during the month of October with an impressive 678 unit sales.

It is priced at R164 900 and goes up against the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo, and Renault Sandero. For those who want to go fast, from R315 900, can get their hands on the Sport version.

The Ertiga, Jimny and Ignis round up the best of the rest bringing in an accumulative 450 units in total.

"We are truly thankful for the success that we have experienced in the past few months. The rapid growth in sales is the product of many years of steady investment in our product line and dealer network," says André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

New vehicle sales took another hit this November

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) said that the overall new vehicle market declined further in November 2019. Domestic sales figures, particularly in commercial vehicle sales, had been disappointing.

However, passenger cars sales, with strong support provided by the car rental industry, showed a welcome uptick.

Reflecting on the new vehicle sales statistics for the month of November 2019 released today for public consumption via the website of the Department of Trade and Industry, Naamsa confirmed that aggregate domestic new vehicle sales, at 44 738 units, reflected a decline of 2740 units or 5.8% from the 47 478 vehicles sold in November last year.

Although monthly export sales had registered a marginal decline during the month, a new annual record had been set with still one month to go until year-end.

The sales figures for November 2019 are in … and 694 units separate the top two vehicles on our list of South Africa’s best-selling bakkies.

According to Naamsa, November’s new vehicle industry sales came in at 44 738 units, representing a fall of 5,8 percent compared with the corresponding month in 2018. The light commercial segment (10 679 units), meanwhile, showed a considerable decline of 22,1 percent compared with November 2018. So, what exactly happened in terms of bakkie sales in the eleventh month of 2019?

I think it is consistent with what they said about commercial sales taking a knock, seeing as the NP200 are more work vehicles than leisure.

Plus the fact that there are so many of them on the used car market.

It's time they split single and extra cabs from double cabs. The 2 former are vat deductible and hence commercial. Double Cabs are classified as personal. If this was done, Ranger double cab would be top every month.
