The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

that's the firts thing i tested...lol,but YES it is working 100% just as it did on the official rom
 
No probs Park,all that you may have to do is use File Explorer to browse to your "Storage Card",there you will se a file named "Garmin Mobile XT" just run it,it will then go into the Garmin application,and once you exit the Garmin application,you'll have the "Samsung Mobile Navigator" icon displayed in "Programs"
 
I have also installed Manila 2d (Touch Flo 3D)on my onnia...looks great.
Is very responsive and stable,doesnt support landscape though.
 
Park are you using this app "greatbal_M2D_App_Launcher_build11142008.cab" ?
 
Trying to convince myself on the OMNIA

I know this is the tips and tricks thread and I DO have a related question but before I get to that, I have been reading all the posts to convince myself to get this phone, I truly do love the look, features etc BUT I surf ALOT on my phone and it would seem the BlackBerry Bold would be the way to go cos of the free facebook, flickr, youtube etc although I have heard of download restrictions. If I wasnt concerned about my internet bill, then the OMNIA it is

Now for my tips and tricks question bit:
I googled BlackBerry Service for the Samsung OMNIA but came up with nada!
On vodacoms site, it lists a few phones that can have the BlackBerry service installed, like the Nokia N71 etc

Any ideas IF BIS could work on the OMNIA?
That would be the bestest EVER! :D

Nope I don't think someone has it working yet. I did manage to get the blackberry connect software running on my HTC tytn a while ago but it was just not worth it for me. It made my phone horribly slow and I could only surf the net through Pocket IE (some pages did not even want to load) and not through Opera mobile. When connecting trough opera/other apps it connects through the internet apn and not blackberry (meaning you still pay extra for the data). I don't know what the Blackberry service costs these days (think something like 60 bucks) but alternatively add a mymeg 75 (R88) bolt on data bundle to your account.

would last me a few days, i'm always on facebook which isnt that large but flickr is :-) oh well...

In my experience, there are very few phones that match the iPhone 3G's internet surfing capabilities etc... (Had one for +-3Months)
Even tough the iPhone 3G does not have HSDPA 7.2Mbp/s, it loads just as fast ,if not faster, than the omnia,also 99% of pages viewed on the iPhone is clearly readable,and its super easy to navigate your way around the page.You can also download the Facebook app from the AppStore for free,and it works fantastic.

So in my own opinion,if you surf the internet a lot,or you are a "Facebook'aholic" then the iPhone 3G is probably your best bet.

Don't think you'll be able to use the BlackBerry Service though...

highly doubt it - best you can hope for is BB connect i.e push email.
If you get a blackberry though you can surf as much s you want without additional charges, there are file size limits for downloading files, but no real limits for straightforward browsing.
 
I guess

it's the blackberry then cos of my internet surfing unless i cut down my ondevice surfing cos i REALLY like the OMNIA, it's WAY cool! Thanks for all the info though...

I am still pondering the idea of DXIA2 (Taril). I don't want to lose the warranty on my phone. Lets say worst case scenario the usb port on the phone breaks, Samsung would not have to fix it if they see you have a cooked ROM... Probably very unlikely it will though. The other thing is to load DXIA2 you need to flash the ROM twice which increases your chances of bricking the phone (the MONAHANS issue).
