The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shootings

So what do you think the result would have been if the attacker had an assault rifle instead of a knife?

A guy with a knife I can still try and defend myself or run away, very little chance of that if he has a gun. Gun just makes it easier to kill someone.

So wouldn't it be a good idea to try and limit who can acquire them easily? Even more so if it's an assault rifle instead of a handgun. They have about 4 times more bullets in a magazine, have bigger bullets, can shoot farther and can shoot more accurate. Sounds like a good idea to me that these shouldn't be bought in a Walmart.

What rubbish. Being killed with a gun or a knife leaves you just as dead.

And who disputed that?

This was the question:
See, you did it again. He said that it is easier to kill with an assault rifle than with a knife, and you're arguing with that point and calling it absolute nonsense :erm:

Do you actually believe that killing multiple people with an automatic rifle isn't easier than killing multiple people with a knife?

Comparisons of states of death weren't being question, ease of killing with two different weapons was. Now the tunes are changed

It would be better to limit whack jobs. Harder, but better. You don't get guns in China, the commies don't want an uprising but there is access to knives. Whack job plus knife equals school stabbings. Remove whack job and you get no stabbings. Clearly knife is unrelated

Whack job plus knife equals stabbings with zero fatalities, or certainly many less than whack job plus assault rifles.

What tune have I changed? Are you trying to dispute that a blade is an effective weapon? Are you trying to say that an AK is the ultimate weapon?

Saw a couple pics of the assault rifle used in the shooting, but I'm sorry, that weapon should not be in the hands of civilians. Keep it to hand guns and hunting rifles, if you want to invade another country, join the army

Yeah okay, while you try and fix mankind's fundamentally broken nature, mind if we limit the tools the whackjobs can use to inflict death?

The fact that he didn't have a gun resulted in 22 injured kids, instead of the 22 dead kids which it would have been had he used a gun. I'm all for removing the whackjobs, but we haven't been able to figure out how to do that. In fact no society on earth seems to have figured that one out just yet. So it seems reasonable (and practical) that we not make weapons that can very easily be used to inflict large-scale death by these very whackjobs, as easily accessible as they are.

It will be a semi automatic version of a fully automatic capable weapon. And ironically, nobody uses automatic mode.

Never said anything close to that, nice try.

That using an assault rifle isn't easier than using a knife to kill multiple people. Coz "Rwanda suggests that". And coz 'knives don't need reloading'. Lol.

Guys, this is real life. Not a FPS where you get one stab kills.

To a trained specialist any object can kill a person. To an idiot child like the one that went on this shooting spree, there is no ways that he could have done the damage he did with firearms... with a knife. I actually find the whole gun/knife comparison to be a little childish.

And because we recognize that there are whack jobs about we demand the right to defend ourselves. Bit of a catch 22. It would be great if there was an answer.

Switzerland come close to getting something right. They all have rifles under their beds, or wherever they keep them. Not too many shootings.

It isn't the rifle, the knife, the fertilizer truck, the piece of piping, the Tylenol. It's the whack job.

Next time there is a bit of a dispute like the Rwandan one, pop over with an assault rifle. You'll either be a god, or sushi.

Hey, I didn't compare the two, you brought Rwanda up ;) But it's OK, you've changed your tune so it's OK..

All this particular whackjob had to do was walk into his mother's lounge and take her Bushmaster M4 off the wall, and he was ready to roll. As I said, I'm all for fixing/removing the whack job, but until we're there, maybe we should just make it less easy for them to shoot people?

An elementary school isn't on par with the Rwandan genocide. What counts for one doesn't count for the other.

Which is exactly the point.

If you can't get old of the M4 you'll use something else. That's the problem with whack jobs.

Take Rwanda. Not enough guns and not enough bullets. Plenty of machetes. Plenty of people knowing how to swing them.

Glad it made you happy.

It did :) Honestly, comparing ease of killing between an assault rifle and a knife, and then concluding that the knife was easier for multiple killings made me just think you were a bit on the slow side.
