The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shootings

Tell me about it! All of the other Ryan Lanzas I can find are either baseball players or wannabe "playerz" from California. This bloke just happens to match all of the details associated with this...

Time for Ryan to move...

Lol yeah, he was even wearing dark clothing, but his FB was so boring, I was like... wtf could have triggered that dude. lol. I wonder who the real Ryan will turn out to be.

Time to restrict weapons to side-arms only.

Have you ever tried running up to a antelope and tried to kill it it 'humanely' as possible with a handgun? I think not. Weapons don't fire themselves without being manipulated (with the exception of unstable ammunition or serious weapon faults), the problem lies with the person behind the trigger.

Stricter controls over firearms and explosives merely hinder the accessibility over such items, not remedy the problem with society and the individual.

By following a lot of the channels it seems this guy went total haywire!

Killed his dad, then his brother and then went to the school to kill his mom and take down everybody he can.

Somebody also mentioned that his girlfriend and a friend is missing. Did he perhaps take them out as well?

I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that anybody would kill small children like that.

Reminds me of that couple from Delmas who's toddler was murdered along with the caretaker.

Well until we find a way to control human beings, which I'm not for either, why don't we opt for the next best thing?

So in all seriousness, those opposed to gun control: won't it make it more difficult for brats like these to get guns if they are controlled? I'm not sure how I feel about gun control but it does seem like it's the only thing left to try in USA where they are shooting up movie theatres, malls and schools :(

There are conflicting reports coming out, as usual. On the one hand they state that they are questioning his younger brother but do not suspect him of wrong-doing, but other reports claim that they are questioning him under the suspicion of him being a second shooter.

I also just read about Lanza's girlfriend and friend being missing. Not sure how they can come to that conclusion so quickly but I hope it isn't true...

Yeah so much speculation and made up stories going on at the moment just to get hits.

I'm going to try to sleep and hopefully this whole story will be clearer in the morning.

Still shocked to the core!

Time for some gun control in the states. That makes it near 100 people who have been killed this year because psychopaths can get hold of automatic weapons more readily than an antibiotic. Screw the 2nd amendment, human lives have greater value than the right to bear arms.

i don't understand how anyone can defend the current situation where people like this are allowed to easily obtain weapons, people who are unstable and inflict massive harm on peoples lives, communities and nations. This is twice as bad as Columbine and not far from Virginia Tech. The system is broken when there are 2/3 mass shootings every year. You cannot defend it (I am looking at you Nicodeamus)

Who says it is easy to get a firearm in the US? And nobody is defending the shootings.

You could walk into an average PnP and purchase the required parts to build a bomb capable of mass murder, for less than what you could spend on a gun. Or how about going ploughing through padestrians and cyclists in your car? I could carry on with many more examples of how ANYONE can commit mass murder with just about anything, but because a mad man used a firearm to commit a crime, we should unfairly restrict others?

I'm sorry, but the point you're trying to make is a typical carebear knee-jerk reaction. People look for something to easy blame, but rarely have the balls to admit they are part of the problem, a sick society.

Yeah. So... Let us give this sick society MOAR GUNS. Seriously?

But your objection was that it is the person behind the killing that is the problem and we should be dealing with sorting that bit out. Unfortunately that's just not plausible. Nobody is disagreeing with you on that point, but the reality is that your solution is simply not a viable option.

I'm not saying that gun control is the be-all and end-all solution, but it certainly would make it less convenient, or let's say easy to commit this sort of heinous act. Would you not agree that if everyone had a gun this sort of thing would be far more prevalent? If so, then by the other side of that token, your argument falls down.

I'm not really one to get into this sort of debate and I've never really looked into it in too much detail. I have however lived in countries where it is nigh on impossible to get a gun, and, well, there is little to no no gun-related violence. I only have my own logic and experience to work on here but I really don't see where this is illogical...

Not going to continue the gun debate.

But the latest is that the shooter's name is Adam Lanza, not Ryan Lanza as originally reported, and that he is 20 years old, not 24. This is all far too screwed up at the moment...

Following reports that the Connecticut mass shooting suspect was named Ryan Lanza, many media outlets linked to the Facebook account of a Ryan Lanza from Newtown, Conn. The account has since been taken down.
This Ryan Lanza's picture and information about him was featured on Fox, CBS, and many other outlets.
However, it appears to be the wrong guy. The New York Post has reported that the name of the suspect is actually Adam Lanza. According to reports over at the Newtown Patch, sources say Ryan Lanza has told friends his "developmentally disabled brother may have committed the crime".
A number of people who claim to be friends with this Ryan Lanza on Facebook say that Lanza is posting he is not the shooter (the posts can apparently only be seen by those who are friends with Lanza).
