The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shootings

Shooting at Connecticut school. 27 dead including 18 children

In the US the companies that manufacture weapons are VERY powerful. They make or break presidents. They have very close links with the US military and Law Enforcement agencies. They sell guns to the population like Coca-Cola sells Coke. They have their large corporate clients (like the Military) and then they have their consumer clients (citizens). Anyone here thinking the US Government will stop citizens from owning gazillions of guns (incl. assault rifles) will be sad to know that any president that supports such legislation will be out of office before his term is over (dead or alive).

But, as I tried to say ... the real problems are not the guns. The real problems are tied to a society that is sick. In large it abandoned the values that made it a great nation in exchange for a morally bankrupt "Hollywood will show us how we shall live" mentality. It affects even my own kids that watches American TV and Movie productions. Even I, here in SA, has a battle as a parent to get my teenagers not to believe what they see ... to adopt the values presented as valid. Anyone blaming Hollywood here? Nope ... it must be the guns. The guns are always the problem.

Guns are weapons. Guns are stupid. They only do what the operator makes it do. Bad operator do bad things with gun. I can do far more damage on my PC if I was so inclined. Hacking can do far more damage than an assault rifle. Is a computer with super specs and large bandwidth evil?

The evil is US. Not US like in in United States, but US like in mankind. We f--k everything up. We collectively must take the blame when these shootings happen. We create the good soil for it. We allow Hollywood to tell our kids what is "normal". We allow legislation that creates environments where kids rule the teachers. We make ... and break ... our world. Not guns. Not computers. We.

Which private sport is played with a semi-automatic ?

I find it very odd that you can buy a military type weapon in the US when you are 18 but you can't buy yourself a drink till you are 21 !

Really you find it odd? Guns do not make people do mad things, alcohol does.
People who use guns to do these things have issues already

Good post

As I see it if you're not not responsible enough to order a beer you aren't responsible enough to own an assault rifle.

so why not start with politicians? Take away their powers to declare war, then decide what we will do with individual citizens.

Even if they do ban or do something with the guns, people will still steal them or buy them illegal from oversees like what happens here where lots of shootings are always with illegally gotten guns.

If they do only give guns to mentally sound individuals it still doesn't stop the others from stealing their guns and using it against the legal owners.

So how they planning to stop these shootings with these problems mentioned and its not all of them.

Gun ownership for self defense isn't being questioned here though. Why are so many mass killings in very first world countries being carried out by legal owners?

That is like asking why smoking weed is mainly done in progressive countries by pot smokers..

What I find crazy is this shooting is only 5 victims short of the Lonmin mine shooting. Both of which have made huge ripples through the media yet our murder rate guesstimates that number is met almost every day.

That would be fair if buying a gun was as frowned upon and restricted as buying a banky.

In some places they are, sadly people who are usually pro gun laws are against legalizing drugs or visa versa, yet they cannot see that there is a contradiction in their belief.

Because there isn't enough done about the sick freaks in society. And we have this big drive not to discriminate and how everyone should have equal rights. Now I am fine with equal rights but how about having people prove that they're up to the responsibility. Turn Animal Farm around and let's just say that some people are less equal than others.

Why do you think that prohibition of guns would be any different than prohibition of drugs or alcohol?

I haven't seen anyone asking for a complete prohibition of guns. We're saying random civilians (and nutters) shouldn't be able to easily acquire assault rifles. If you think gun laws that prohibit specific sorts of weapons are silly, would you be fine with it if people could legally purchase grenade launchers or RPGs from WalMart?

I am not fine with them buying then any more than I am with the internet supplying information on how to make home made bombs that can do the exact same damage.
