Hi,
i know there is a movie thread but im just interested in why you guys think this movie is #1.
i watched it on the weekend and it was an amazing movie but im not sure i could pick up why it is #1?

Any opinions.

Very existential movie. Great directing coupled with a brilliant Stephen King storyline. It is one of my top movies. Very watchable. The Green Mile is a similar movie, right up there.

When you get to the upper end of ratings scales, things get fuzzy. Would you rather have a Lambo or a Ferrari; Jessica Alba or Kate Beckinsale?

Shawshank is a brilliant film - I too regard it as one of the best I've ever seen. But I have 4 or 5 movies that share that pedestal for differing reasons. Aren't IMDb's ratings linked to public opinion? If so, add a healthy dose of sheeple who probably haven't seen the movie.

I thought it was a great movie as well.
I thought that the godfather movies were boring, but they are also right up there.

Best movie ever, have seen it a few hundred times.

Excellent directing coupled with brilliant performances by Robbins and Freeman.

It's a good movie, but I also don't count it as my #1. Also, I thought the book was better - but that's usually par for the course.

also one of my fav movies, watched it about a 100 times now. def worthy of no1 imho

Yeah, we had to study it for school, which obviously entails watching it about 10 times.
For most movies, this would put you off it for life, yet I would still (and have) watched it numerous times since then.
Any movie that can take this "punishment", in my books, is definitely one of the best.

As an aside, if you are a fan (and you also like Family Guy), do yourself a favour and watch Family Guy s7e16 (Peter's Progress). They do a 10 minute spoof of the movie and it's really, really good, even down to the soundtrack they used.

It was of Stephen King's short stories (but his short stories are quite long because his novels are often 1500 page epics :P). What was the short story called again? Think it was name after the girl on the poster :D

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption

The movie of the Green Mile is surprisingly close to the book.

Same with Band of Brothers... almost identical to the book.
