Manhunt on for mall robbers

Cape Town - Police are on the hunt for a trio of robbers who hit a store at an Athlone shopping centre, in the Western Cape, on Wednesday.

Provincial police spokesperson Tembinkosi Kinana said the heist took place at Vangate Mall at 11:55 when the suspects, carrying guns, made their way to a jewellery store.

He said a 59-year-old shop assistant was allegedly instructed at gunpoint to make her way to the back of the shop.

"They started taking jewellery, the value of which has not been disclosed," he said.

The suspects then fled the scene.

Police are investigating a case of business robbery.

There have been no arrests yet.

Chaos at Cape Town mall during robbery

Cape Town - Tenants at a Cape Town shopping centre hit by a trio of robbers on Wednesday tried to lock the suspects in the store they had hit.

Chaos erupted at Vangate Mall in Athlone shortly before midday when the three “big” gun-toting suspects made their way to the Sherezad jewellery store, a witness said.

“People just started running in all directions,” he told News24.

“Everyone was screaming and fleeing the vicinity of the store. It was madness.”

Inside the shop, the suspects took a 59-year-old assistant to the back of the store, where they apparently grabbed all the gold jewellery.

An employee from a neighbouring store said one worker tried to keep the doors shut from the outside while calling for help.

Liquor Store armed robbers arrested by Atlas and the Police.

Just after 09h30 today (Thursday), Atlas was alerted to an Armed Robbery in progress at a liquor store in Biggar Street, Miramar. Four armed men driving a white Toyota Tazz vehicle, 3 of whom stormed into the shop, held the staff at gunpoint and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash and alcohol and fled the scene.

Arriving on the scene within seconds, Atlas and the Police were notified and a clear description was issued to all vehicles in the area. Responding Atlas Response Officers saw the vehicle speeding down Circular Drive, gave chase and pulled them over on the corners of Chaumont Road & Vitry Avenue. Three of the suspects jumped out and fled while the driver was arrested. Minutes later Atlas caught one of the suspects who fled on foot and the Police apprehended another.

During the investigation, it was confirmed that three suspects were arrested while their 1 partner in crime is still at large. No shots were fired during the robbery and ensuing chase, and a lady was treated for shock after 2 of the fleeing suspects attempted to hijack her in Circular Drive in an attempt to get away. The Police recovered some of the loot and one firearm in the getaway vehicle.

A case of armed robbery has been opened with the Police for further investigation.

Police hunt for armed robbers after Durban mall shoot-out

Durban - The hunt is on for a gang of armed robbers after a dramatic shoot-out with cash-in-transit security guards at a Durban shopping centre on Monday.

It is understood that several armed men had accosted a bank customer and robbed him of a large amount of money near the Malvern Pick ‘n Pay in western Durban.

Their fleet-footed escape saw them run into a confrontation with heavily-armed SBV cash-in-transit guards who had been at the mall.

A firefight ensued with robbers and guards trading salvos before they scrambled into their getaway car and sped off.

A police source close to the investigation, who could not be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media, said the men had then crashed their car on the Hans Dettman Highway Bridge.

Head-on collision

“They collided with another vehicle head-on and they then got out of their car and hijacked another motorist at gunpoint, taking off in an Opel Corsa,” he said. The Corsa has since been recovered in Mariannhill.

Five Ways Spar in Port Elizabeth.... Monday just before 21:00.

SAPS were on the scene while robbery was still in progress. No injuries to staff. Suspects arrested with firearms and loot. One suspect waiting in the getaway car abandoned the car and hoofed it down the road. Our neighborhood watch patrollers apprehended him while running done Albany Road.

I was hoping for some good news today, seems I'm out of luck...
 
Eish.... and our local police station here in Jeppe was also robbed last night.
 
Somerset West this morning. Not a mall or centre but a Spar.
