Manhunt after cash-in-transit heist at Southdale Shopping Centre

Police have launched a manhunt for about eight armed suspects following a cash-in-transit heist at Southdale Shopping Centre in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon.

The robbery took place at around noon on Sunday‚ police said.

“It is alleged that the security officers were conducting their business at Southdale Shopping Centre when the driver was approached by about eight suspects who pointed [at] him with firearms‚ forcing him to open the cash van.

I was always under the impression these are armoured trucks. How do they get the driver to open the doors? Drivers hardly leave the cabin.
 
Brazen #CIT heist at mall opposite Soweto police station

Johannesburg - Not even a police station opposite the Jabulani Mall in Soweto could deter the latest brazen cash-in-transit heist, which took place in broad daylight and resulted in a woman being shot.

Ironically, Monday’s robbery took place on a day when five suspects arrested in connection with last week’s daring cash-in-transit heist appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.

The suspects were remanded in custody.

Bogus cops rob jewellery store

Durban - Four robbers, two of them using police attire, held up Cherry Design jewellers at the Ballito Junction Mall on Monday.

Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, KZN police spokesperson said the store owner was accosted by two suspects clad in police uniform.

"The two suspects were joined by another three unidentified suspects. At gunpoint the suspects robbed him of cash, wrist watches and jewellery before fleeing the crime scene in their getaway vehicle,"Mbhele said.

. KZN cops kill two jewellery store robbers

.Durban- Police officers from the Provincial Task Team, Special Task Force and K9 Unit followed up on intelligence reports with regards to the suspects involved in the jewellery store robbery at Ballito junction on Monday.

On Tuesday morning the police officers approached a house at Piesang River in Inanda. Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, said as the police officers approached the house the suspects opened fire at them.

"Two suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire. Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were seized from the deceased suspects. The investigation into the armed robbery at Ballito continues. Attempts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects involved in the incident,"Mbhele said.

Shots were fired during an armed robbery at the Menlyn Shopping Centre on Monday evening, police said.

Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said four unknown armed men entered the Vault store at mall around 18:00 on Monday.

She said they smashed the window of the store with a hammer.

“The suspects took an unconfirmed number of Rolex watches,” she said.

Weilbach said the four men fired shots at security guards as they escaped the shopping centre in two cars, of which one were a white BMW.

She said no one was injured in the shooting.

The perpetrators targeted New Redruth Mall’s Pep store, and took cellphones and other valuables.

SAPS, security companies, Alberton metro police and the region’s community policing forum (CPF) responded to the scene after an alarm went off on Sunday morning, June 17, Alberton Record reports.

At about 11am, three suspects entered the Pep Store at New Redruth Mall and proceeded to lock all the store employees in one of the offices.

No arrests in Chatsworth Centre robbery


Durban - There have been no arrests in the business robbery that took place on Monday evening at Chatsworth Centre KZN police have said.*

There have been false reports doing its round on social media following Monday's incident that 3 people were arrested and R1,2 million of cash, jewellery and a gun was recovered.*

According to police spokesman, Captain*Nqobile Gwala, there were no arrests by Tuesday midday.*

She said the robbery took place at around 6:30pm. The centre had to be evacuated
