The Super PSP Thread

Dark_AleX resumed Service

The M33 team had announced his return for the release of firmware 4.00. Far from imagine, as we all do, that this would be so little news.

Anyway, it would appear that the master has returned to work and that the Custom firmware 4.00 in M33 is made available soon.

In the news announced, in addition to the support of firmware 4.00, it would appear that a new Recovery is brand new to the program. Nothing more was filtered and perhaps even that novelty will be kept for a more "major" firmware of the PSP.

To be continued ...

What's new on 4.00?

Although this is most likely FAKE here is what the "rumored" list of features are said to be:

Game:

* PLAYSTATION 3 Network titles can be played under PSP [Remote Play] under Game. The PSP is then used as a monitor for any game playable in Playstation 3 game console.

Network:

* Real, Quicktime, and WMV audio and video codecs are now supported.
* [Shockwave Player]has been added as a feature.
* PSP web browser has been updated to allow compatibility with current websites.
* [Adobe Flash Player 9] has been added as a feature, using the Memory Stick Pro Duo as flash memory.
* [Remote Play] has been improved by the PS3 outputting 1080p to the PSP with larger icons text and better video quality. Remote Play now transmits at 11 mbps per sec.
* 802.11g support has been added as a feature.
* PSOne games can now be downloaded without a PS3
* Level 6 has been added to rate in Sony LocationFree Player to improve picture quality in H.264
* [Auto Connect] has been added as a feature

Music:

* More visuals has been added as a feature.

Video:

* Real, QuickTime, and WMV audio and video codecs are now supported.
* RSS [Video Streaming] has been added as a feature.
* [Color Configuration] has been added as a feature.
* Recording has been added as a feature under Audio and Video RSS Streaming.

Other:

* Copy, Command, Paste, Auto Complete, and Advanced Cookie Management has been added as a feature.

Now if only this was real that would truly allow the PSP to go beyond where portable gaming has ever gone. Sony were looking at you make this a reality.

The latest firmware IMO is a waste of time. And on the custom firmware news, the Homebrew Devs are developing a new kernel for the PSP ontop of which a OS for the PSP can run.

More info on it can be found here:
The Utopia Project

What Utopia won’t do/won’t feature:

* It’s not meant to run Sony’s code; current homebrew or games won’t run on it
* It will not feature UMD drive support of any kind
* It will not feature any kind of DRM functionality
* It will most likely not feature any kirk engine support
* WLAN is planned, but not a priority at this point
* No VSH or graphic interface of any kind is to be included or officially supported by the Utopia project. Utopia is ONLY the kernel; if you want to code your own shell on top of it, you may do so.

Yes, it's just the kernel. It is up to the other hombrew dev to build the XMB ontop of it.

Yup indeed. It should be interesting to see how it'll be used though. Maybe DAX can use it in the Custom Firmwares.

I need someone who'll downgrade my fat PSP for me... Running 3.72 official...
I do not have access to a homebrew PSP to complete the Pandora's battery procedure.

If you're in KZN, please PM me. I will gladly pay for your services.

Thanks

Custom Firmware 4.01 M33 Released!!

It's finally here!! The much anticipated update for the PlayStation Portable is now out. PSP developer, Dark_AleX has just released their newest custom firmware 4.01 M33. Wait what? Yea that's right, 4.01 not 4.00. With this update it brings all of Sony's newest additions and much more.

Changes:
- Bug fix: vshmenu didn't let change camera mode due to camera_plugin using select button.
Fixed, now vsh menu will not be loaded when using the camera.

- Recovery can now be translated, See how below. Translation to spanish is autoincluded.
- Updated the M33 SDK with a new function and sample, and released the psp-packer tool to
compress prx's and PBP's in the ~PSP format.

- The folder of 4.01 and higher homebrew will be GAME4XX so it won't need change on update.

The dev also mentions in his readme, the following "1.50 kernel addon for fat will be released this evening or this night." So did he change his mind? Will at least its good news for all of you who were worried of losing their 1.50 kernel support.

This update DA also brings a new PSP SDK for 4.01 M33. Included is "PSP Packer" which is a tool to compress prx's and pbp's.

You may update your PSP via the Network Update icon on your PSP through a wi-fi hotspot. Or alternatively download the update from the link below, which also includes the new PSP SDK from Dark_AleX. Also be sure to check out the readme(s) included with the files.
Enjoy everyone!!

Hope someone can help:

I upgraded my slim to cfw and also made a backup of the NAND and keys (before upgrading), but then I formatted the mem. stick by mistake and lost the NAND backup!

Now I am on CFW, and would like some peace of mind in case my PSP ever gets bricked.

Should I make another NAND backup now that I'm on CFW and is there any way to do so other than having to create the pandora setup (mem stick+battery) all over again? something like an .iso that I can run from the game menu?

Or is it useless to have a NAND backup now that it's already on CFW?

I've backed up the keys using Keycleaner.

It is not needed to make a NAND backup now. You can make one when you decide to upgrade again, before you start the process.

Should I use Open Source NAND Dumper v0.1 (will run from XMB, no need for pandora) or should I create a pandora's battery with DCv5 on the mem. stick and dump the NAND from there?
