London's FT Slammed by UN Over Russian Smear in Ban Ki-moon Interview

Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary General, said in an official letter sent to FT that while many of the quotes attributed to Ban Ki-moon in the article are technically correct, "they are framed in a way that attributes to him direct language that is incorrect."

For example, Dujarric points out that the exact answer given by Ban Ki-moon regarding the resolution 2254 was "I sincerely hope that the parties should be more faithful in implementing this resolution."

Russia keeps bombing despite Syria truce; Assad vows to fight on

Major powers agreed on Friday to a pause in combat in Syria, but Russia pressed on with bombing in support of its ally President Bashar al-Assad, who vowed to fight until he regained full control of the country.

Although billed as a potential breakthrough, the "cessation of hostilities" agreement does not take effect for a week, at a time when Assad's government is poised to win its biggest victory of the war with the backing of Russian air power.

If implemented, the deal hammered out during five hours of late night talks in Munich would allow humanitarian aid to reach besieged towns. It was described by the countries that took part as a rare diplomatic success in a conflict that has fractured the Middle East, killed at least 250,000 people, made 11 million homeless and sent hundreds of thousands fleeing into Europe.

But several Western countries said there was no hope for progress without a halt to the Russian bombing, which has decisively turned the balance of power in favour of Assad.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that if the peace plan fails, more foreign troops could enter the conflict.

"If the Assad regime does not live up to its responsibilities and if the Iranians and the Russians do not hold Assad to the promises that they have made ... then the international community obviously is not going to sit there like fools and watch this. There will be an increase of activity to put greater pressure on them," Kerry, who was in Munich, told Dubai-based Orient TV.

"There is a possibility there will be additional ground troops."

U.S. President Barack Obama has ruled out sending U.S. ground troops to Syria, but Saudi Arabia this month offered ground forces to fight Islamic State.

A White House spokesman, Eric Schultz, called the agreement "an important step," but added, "In the coming days, we will be looking for actions, not words, to demonstrate that all parties are prepared to honour their commitments."

The complex, multi-sided civil war in Syria, raging since 2011, has drawn in most regional and global powers, producing the world's worst humanitarian emergency and attracting jihadist recruits from around the world.

Rebels said the town of Tal Rifaat in northern Aleppo province was the target of intensive bombing by Russian planes on Friday morning. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring body, said warplanes believed to be Russian also attacked towns in northern Homs.

The news agency AFP quoted Assad as saying he would continue to fight terrorism while talks took place. He said he would retake the entire country, although this could take a long time.

Another week of fighting would give Syria's government and its Russian, Lebanese and Iranian allies time to press on with the encirclement of Aleppo, Syria's biggest city before the war, which they are now on the verge of capturing.

You obviously don't understand, If the stories posted on Sputnik and RT were fake including the documents you so vigorously enjoyed claiming to be so then I'm waiting for the FT to call them out and come to the same conclusion as you, my dyslectic friend and to put them on the front page of their website

Turkey shells Kurdish militia

Turkey has shelled a Kurdish militia in northern Syria and demanded it retreat from territory it has seized, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.
The US urged Turkey to stop the shelling and focus on fighting the group Islamic State (IS).
Meanwhile Turkey's foreign minister said Turkey was mulling a ground invasion of Syria with Saudi forces.

Turkey confirms military strikes against Assad regime troops

The Turkish military have confirmed strikes against regime targets in north west Syria.

Turkish troops responded to mortar fire from Syrian government troops on a police station in Calibogazi, Hatay province, this afternoon, reported the state run Turkish Anadolu Agency.

US urges Turkey to stop shelling Kurdish and Syrian forces

Washington has called on Turkey to cease massive artillery fire on Kurdish targets near the city of Azaz in northwest Syria, including an air base recently retaken from Islamist rebels, and to “deescalate tensions on all sides.”

“We are concerned about the situation north of Aleppo and are working to deescalate tensions on all sides,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement Saturday.

“We have also seen reports of artillery fire from the Turkish side of the border and urged Turkey to cease such fire,” he said.

Except the paper won't want to give any form of credence to something like that, it's quite normal for them to just ignore, trying to deny the item would make conspiracy theorists believe even more there is some form of conspiracy.

Have you found any reference to it on the UN site? Or anyway other that the Putin press.

This faked letter was a stupid idea, I don't actually believe it comes from the Putin Propaganda factories, unlike Crimea and Ukraine, Russia has reasonable international support for their Syria campaign.

I presume this was botched up by someone not in the Russian propaganda department.

So easy to attribute something to Russian propaganda without lifting a single finger to uncover the truth, does that not just make you increasingly susceptible to US propaganda or do you believe the US is completely untrained in the art / unwilling to use such tactics?

So from the UN directly then, in October 2015 in a press conference (watch from about 13:50) Ban Ki-Moon clearly says:
I believe that the future of Syria, or future of all this peace talks, Syrian lead negotiation should not be held up by an issue of the future of one man. Basically I believe that it is up to Syrian people who have to decide the future of President Assad ...

He has been pretty consistent in not explicitly picking sides and vocal on his opinion that removing Assad is not something anyone other than Syrians should have an opinion on. That last bit is the complete opposite of what the US has pushed for all along and is consistent with what the Russians have been saying.

So this consistent view suddenly flipped 180 as he had an epiphany and provided very anti-Russia comments into the hands of pro-USA propaganda news outlets and no-one else. This is what you'd rather believe?

Have you got some spare cash to invest? I have some prime plots on the moon for sale, great investment ... :whistle:

I haven't commented on what Ban Ki-Moon might be thinking or saying, I have only been discussing the obvious mock-up (aka fake) letter from the UN that comrade snoopingdog posted.

Did you actually read my post you quoted? As in, read and understood?

I think I made it pretty clear I don't believe the letter was a product of the Russian Propaganda factories. Perhaps go back and re-read what I wrote.

On the last page he made a number of posts that would constitute to lifting multiple fingers to uncover the truth. Perhaps you missed those posts.
