The Syrian Conflict Thread

An RT journalist. I'm sure it's coincidence. :p

I did a google on her before posting and didn't find an RT link, she seems to specialise in pro-Palestinian stuff from what I saw...

Eva Bartlett llived a collective 3 years in Gaza, where she did human rights accompaniment with Palestinian farmers and fishers, and reported from on the ground. She has reported widely, including for Russia Today, Al Akhbar, Dissident Voice, Counter Punch, Inter Press Services, Global Research, and on her blog In Gaza.

In November 2008 she sailed with the Free Gaza Movement to Gaza, reporting on the ground in northern Gaza during the 2008-2009 Israeli massacre of Gaza and during the November 2012 Israeli massacre of Gaza.

She has visited Syria three times since April 2014, including independently on a journalist visa. Her Syria writings and interviews are collated on this page.

She is a co-founder of the Syria Solidarity Movement and the administrator its website.

She does speak a lot of sense about the weakness of verifiable facts coming from the rebel side, and there's been a lot of other talk about the bias of the white helmets recently (ands let's leave the SOHR right out of it ;))

An RT affiliation would cast serious doubt over any source.

If you're actively entrapped in a propaganda campaign.

NYT, CNN, BBC lie daily on Syria yet they don't have the same doubt cast against them or their affiliates.

Really?

One google of Eva Bartlett RT gave me this as the first link:

https://www.rt.com/op-edge/authors/eva-bartlett/

That's a list of authors who have written op-eds for them, not necessarily employed by them.

https://www.rt.com/op-edge/authors/

I'm pretty sure Helen Caldicott (anti nuclear campaigner), Peter Schiff (slightly mad US financial analyst and Republican wannabe politician) or Jhinuk Chowdhury (Times of India journalist) are not RT journalists, yet they also appear on that list. That was just 3 of the first 5 I chose at random...

Who knew it's the Russians who are "failing" in Syria......

:whistle:

Except Snopes proved their inability to be objective and factual in the last election cycle.

And I'm pretty sure I've already brought that to your attention in the past.

So the fact 2 people called Aya were victims somehow disproves her entire argument? Ok...

Have you seen the photos of armed white hats?

What argument? I agree there could be problems verifying things in a warzone. The fact that she's unabashedly pro-Assad makes me doubt she's interested in honestly reporting anything that runs contrary to the Assad/Putin line.

I mean hell, she and other RT hack can't even seem to agree on whether White Helmets are even in Eastern Aleppo.

So you are still desperately trying to put her into an "RT hack" box to suit your early post? I think her previous experience gives her more credence than that...
None of the people responding gave any kind of specific location with respect to their observations of the white hats, nor did we actually get to see the question being asked directly. Looks like a keyboard warrior getting a little too zealous with the narrative and putting words into people's mouth in the process.

But I guess OD won't address that, either.

You haven't watched her press conference then?

She says different things, what are you talking about specifically? And she doesn't actually even answer his main question. He asks her where she gets her credible information from and she doesn't even attempt to answer it.

She claims no international organisations are there, yet MSF are. This after claiming the hospital was never even bombed in the first place, btw. The Mercy Corps are also there, as are World Vision, International Rescue Committee etc. So is she lying or ignorant?

Then she makes the claim that "no one" in Eastern Aleppo has even heard of the White Helmets, yet the RT reporter clearly says the opposite. So which is it?

Funnily enough, Sky News today were also saying there are no international agencies on the ground in the rebel areas of eastern Aleppo.

Even Reuters is saying there are no international agencies working in the area.

Nov 30 The Russian Defence Ministry said on Wednesday it was ready to escort aid agencies into parts of Syria's eastern Aleppo recently cleared of rebels, but said it had not received any requests from the United Nations or anyone else so far.

Sergei Rudskoi, a defence ministry official, told reporters Syrian government forces had completely cleared the Castello road of rebels, meaning there was now an unimpeded path for aid deliveries.

MSF say they aren't in eastern Aleppo

Francisco is speaking from the south of Turkey. His team is in regular contact with the eight hospitals supported by MSF in east Aleppo. “Before the siege began, we were sending in supplies every three months,” says Francisco, “but it still didn't cover their massive needs, not even with the help of the other partners supporting them.

MSF teams have been unable to travel to Aleppo and visit the hospitals supported by MSF for more than a year. “What is clear is that we have lost the capacity to help in any major way,” says Francisco.

World Vision say they aren't in eastern Aleppo

World Vision is preparing to serve people displaced from Aleppo. Plans include providing winter supplies like blankets and mattresses, clean water and sanitation services, food, and emergency supplies in the regions north and west of Aleppo.

We are currently helping about 100,000 people fleeing recent violence in the area. World Vision is working in Tel Abiad, A’zaz, Jarabulus, and Manbij districts within the Aleppo Governorate to:

Mercy Corps say they aren't in eastern Aleppo

Mercy Corps has large quantities of stocks ready to go into Aleppo, however roads into the eastern part of the city are impassable as airstrikes and ground clashes have once again escalated.

We are ready and able to move convoys into Aleppo when opportunities to resume delivering aid present themselves. In the meantime, we will continue to provide food, clean water, hygiene supplies and psychosocial support to people who remain in other parts of Syria under similarly stressful conditions.

IRC aren't in eastern Aleppo.

Our programs are led by cross-border teams in Iraq, Turkey and Jordan—each providing support that is tailored to the communities they serve. As violence continues to escalate in the region, the IRC is focusing our efforts by:
partnering with local and diaspora groups to ensure the uninterrupted flow of medicines, supplies, and equipment;
supporting clinics and mobile teams to deliver primary care, trauma services, reproductive health care, and dialysis;
supplying thousands of displaced people with clothing and emergency supplies;
running classes, counseling and protection services for thousands of children in camps and communities;
creating safe spaces for women and girls that offer services for survivors of violence, as well as counseling and skills training;
providing emergency cash assistance to help displaced families meet their immediate needs;
building households’ economic stability with job training and small business support.
