Iran has long standing economic agreements with Russia. This year Trump signed off on the nuclear accord with major world powers which sees the lifting of sanctions on Iran, which would benefit Russia, who USA currently has sanctions against, and obviously boost Iran's economy. The deal was already drawn up during Obama administration. US government said the reason for the deal was to improve diplomacy. No way it would have been agreed without any financial benefit to the US. Obama is not the warm and fuzzy type.

The head of a global arms watchdog said that "incontrovertible" test results from an alleged chemical strike in Syria showed sarin gas or a similar substance had been used.

Samples from ten victims of the 4 April attack on Khan Sheikhun analysed at four laboratories "indicate exposure to sarin or a sarin-like substance," said Ahmet Uzumcu, head of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Samples had been taken from three people who died in the attack, and were analysed at two OPCW-designated laboratories, Mr Uzumcu told delegates to the OPCW's executive council, according to a statement.

Another set of bio-medical samples from seven people being treated in hospitals were also analysed in two other labs.

"While further details of the laboratory analyses will follow, the analytical results already obtained are incontrovertible," Mr Uzumcu told the meeting of the body's executive council which resumed at its headquarters in The Hague.

The executive council is to meet again tomorrow to vote on a draft decision which is being discussed.

France intelligence would have proof that Assad's forces threw the chemical attacks. The proofs will be presented within days.

The French foreign minister has said that France's intelligence services have evidence that the Syrian government carried out the alleged chemical weapons attack on a rebel village earlier this month.

"There is an investigation underway... it's a question of days and we will provide proof that the regime carried out these strikes," Jean-Marc Ayrault told LCP television on Wednesday.

Intelligence on the ground, instructors for training on the ground so probably recouping all this. They're especially in the Kurdish area which is close to that village.

A big part of the 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment is suspected of being there.

We'll see more when they disclose the evidence.

Officially they're not there. The Ministry never confirmed or denied but they're suspected of being around 400.

Mostly training and "supporting" (supporting can mean a lot of things) Kurds and other rebels, giving tactical support to planes from the ground (what to bomb and when).

If you want more information you can translate this, it doesn't say much. It I don't find articles really saying more.

There isn't even a hint anywhere that a "big part" of a regiment of the French army is operating in Syria.

Is that just fanciful opinion or is there any proof to back up that statement?

1st RPIMA is the core unit of the COS (special operations commandment) so the one assigned to Iraq, Syria and Libya. They are specialized in unconventional warfare, direct reconnaissance...

All the French defense journalists quote consistently between 200 and 400 COS soldiers in Syria.

I should have said a big part of the 3rd and 4th company of the regiment, the rest is dedicated to entirely different tasks than what's required in overseas operations.

The rest is probably the 13th Parachute Dragoon Regiment and the others are from the secret services. The other units of the COS require helicopters or more heavy equipment and are probably not useful.

France was in favor of attacking Syria before the US and backed out when the Republicans refused it back in 2011/2012.

They are also very strategically involved because of Lebanon being next door and a very close satellite.

And ISIS attacks in the West targeted mainly which country ? France.

So yes. The US actually have more forces on the ground now since they brought some recently to help with the offensives. They sent 400 more in March https://www.google.co.za/amp/s/mobi.../09/world/middleeast/us-troops-syria.amp.html

Please find links and sources before criticizing everything, I'm getting tired of spending time looking for sources while your bring nothing to the table apart from unfounded skepticism.

I would turn that on you, please provide genuine links and sources when you make a statement of fact that is nothing but your opinion and conjecture based on speculation on websites or on reports that are 5 years old.

There was no vote, Obama just saw that he wouldn't get a majority.

France doesn't have the military capacity to go by itself.
