How old were you when your parents had "the talk" / did you have "the talk" with your child(ren)

Was kinda a continuous process with more detail added rather than one talk.

my parents - never happened

youngsters get some intro to it in Grade 1 (I think) when they are told about inappropriate behaviour.

Lol @ us silly humans needing to explain it to their young :p.

Just don't rely on school doing this. They're terrible at this...

My 8 year old daughter is starting to ask some difficult questions.

More a case of me not being ready for her to be ready to be honest :-(

I didn't get a talk. I learnt it from swapping porn with my friends from school.

If you explained it to her with as much candor as you'd explain getting sick or riding a bicycle she'd probably just regard it as the normal thing it should be, rather than the weird thing adults make it out to be. I can't really see the harm in explaining it at any age if they're asking. Then again - it's easy to say this when I don't have a kid asking me the question :).

When my friends told me a man puts his privates into a woman's privates to make a baby they didn't tell me about the sperm.

Being the technical kid, I immediately assumed the man trips a wire type organ inside the woman that triggers the birth process.

Was playing at a friend's house when I was still a laaitie. His older brother, who was in high school at the time, had friends over - walked in on them watching a "blue movie" in the lounge. Kinda didn't have to ask my folks any awkward questions after that.

I never had the talk with my parents :p

Got Sex Ed at school, which was pretty biased, but anymoo.

Parents never gave me the talk as a kid. Sorta learnt it at a young age in the street with friends.

Kids sorta start knowing these things based on what is shown on movies these days, also sex education in schools.

Good morning

Based on some of the excellent advice given in this thread I invited a few of my daughter friends over for a movie night last night put on a blue movie.

problem solved.

:-)

And I think that's the only way that it sinks in really.

I don't remember any particular talk or event from anyone so mine must have been much the same.

Nope they didn't give me the talk, found out I was adopted when my father let it slip during one of his drunken outbursts.

Was given several books and a record to listen to... in lieu of "the talk"....
But the playground education was much more informative.
