The Tata Bolt Thread (Tata Lovers)

Here are two Indian detailed reviews (with many pics) from the Team-BHP blog for the Zest (marketed in SA as the Bolt sedan) and Bolt hatchback models, when they were launched there last year:

There are also diesel variants on offer in India as well - maybe they will come to SA later:

Good links.

I see in India the top spec level cars have LED DRL's.

Doesn't look like the local spec cars have it here...perhaps to keep the price down.

There's also a version of the sedan available in India with the diesel engine mated to an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) - designated the XTA model.

Tata Motors, the home-grown automaker, has silently launched a new top-end AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) variant of the Zest. Called the Zest XTA, it is priced at Rs 8.07 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With this new variant, the Zest now has two AMT-equipped diesel models in its line-up.

Talking about the features, the Zest XTA has all the features that are offered with the XT manual variant. The list of features include Harman infotainment system that supports voice command, navigation, SMS readouts, etc. Other features are height adjustable driver seat, rear parking sensors, climate control, and two airbags among other provisions.

There are no changes to the exterior either. Powering the vehicle is the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine that is good for 88bhp at 4000rpm and 200Nm at 1750-3000rpm. Mated to the 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), the Zest is claimed to return an impressive mileage of 23Km/l.

I never understood why only our cars don't come with DRL unless it's top spec... like those two strips will add tens of thousands to the price of a vehicle. Ag man that's like a R300 Autozone joppie!

I like it, the Indica (as ugly as it was / is) is actually a very reliable little motor from the research I've done. I wouldn't buy one, but I would respect anyone who did.

"Despite not being an entirely new car, the Bolt is definitely a step in the right direction for the Indian manufacturer. With prices starting at R132 995, it’s more than R20 000 cheaper than the more powerful but equally well-equipped Ford Figo. If the level of comfort is not enough to please would-be buyers, its frugal running should impress on a daily basis and even more so if you can adapt your driving style to its 66 kW engine."

That's actually not the worst looking tiny little car on the market.

It could very well be after a crash. I'd like to know how these handle in a crash. Other than that, this could thrive in the local SA market, cheap and affordable, yet packed with goodies.
